Can anyone give me some insight into the play of Brad Smith in training camp? Also, I have not heard much about today's scrimmages. Any updates there too?

Perhaps the rocket can get his rights cheap and give him a look. He might be able to help us out with our 3/4 line weaknesses

Brad has actually had a very good camp ... but he has done that the two previous camps he attended also and ultimately was cut both times after the season started. Brad carries the puck quite well for a big man and is always working hard every shift. But Brad is now 19 and we already have too many forwards and will have to cut some returning players from last year. They will not cut any returning players to keep Brad ... and there are a few younger players that look to be more promising than him ... so his chances of staying with the team are virtually zero. He can remain as an affiliate player and hope to get called up if injuries occur ... or he can go through waivers and hope to catch on to another team. I think Brad can play in the Q but he will just be a role player on any team he catches on with. There are probably a few rebuilding teams in need of a big third liner that skates well.

And the Rocket are not one of them. With all due respect to Brad the Rocket have enough depth on their 3rd & 4th lines that we aren't looking to add a 19 yr old. That's not to say that an 18 or 19 yr old Hawes type of player with 20 goal potential wouldn't be welcomed but Brad isn't that type of player and we are better off with who we have than adding anything less. I agree that Smith probably is good enough to play in the Q but at 19 he is probably much better off as one of the top players on the Capitals.

Actaully, I believe that is the Rocket's achilles heel. I am very concerned about the 3rd and 4th lines. I was not even a little impressed with LaChaine last year 2nd half, and Cliche has not been developing at all. Street, MacLean, Paynter, and Main are there, but I would take Brad Smith over Cliche any day. I am not sure if you have seen Smith play lately, but hes not the same player that he was 2 years ago. This kid can play.

Smith placed on waivers? Heard that, but never read it on here. You have to offer 19 year olds a player card by Monday or they go on 19 year old waivers...Brad would fall under that category.
