Lincourt is gone becuase he played himself off the team. He won't be this year's Welton because Lincourt's inability to play with any consitancy, structure or desire far outweighs any shortcomings derived from the play of Nathan Welton... either real or imagined.
I know he's gone and this is kind of beating a dead horse... but Ace made a comment in here that I didn't get to respond to right away. Yes, it was only two games in when the "lincourt bashing" began in earnest this year (which is not true really... he wasn't anythign special in camp, either)... but this stems from the inability to play productively and proactively from basically his first shift here (save about two and a half playoff games).
I think Ace just brought up the Welton connection partly because he wanted to come off as knowledgable on the subject of Lincourt... and it didn't work.
People bashed Welton because he would attempt plays that would sometimes backfire on him... because he had the skill to successfully complete these plays more often than not. Almost every major offensive defensemen who has played for the Moncton Wildcats has suffered the same stigma... It happened to Vigneault.... it happened to Sanford... and it happened to Welton. I guess it comes with the territory when you play a high risk game (except for guys like Yandle because they WERE that good and were flashier to boot... or a guy liek Tezikov, who was just as risky as Welton at times but augmented that with big hits)
Welton may have given people fits over the years... but you couldn't question his competitive nature.... at least not compared to Lincourt, anyway.
People bashed Lincourt because he was wasted talent. At least Welton tried (as did Sanford and Vigneault... Lincourt didn't, more often than not.
