www.lhjmq.qc.ca/lang_en/index.php?page=232&id_nouvelle=1531Riopel is finally showing some consistency putting up three strong starts in a row. Last season, his best game was the season opener and he had trouble playing two good games in a row all year. He also had a problem with letting weak goals in even though he's always been technically sound. So far this seaon, he's showed that he's ready to be the undisputed starting goalie and even one of the better goalies in the league. Maybe last year, he felt too much pressure knowing Sniderman would replace him if he played bad or maybe he just needed a longer adjustment period. I'm not saying he's an elite goaltender just cause he won defensive player of the week but it looks like he's put last season (and the NHL draft) behind him and has already won a few games almost on his own. That's the goalie the Wildcats need if they want to push Halifax in the standings this year.

His first week wasn't that great ... 2nd week was excellent ... so really he has only had 3 good starts in a row even though he has started 7 games. Don't forget he gave up 6 vs Bathurst in game 1 and then gave up 3 in 10 mins and got yanked vs Halifax. He still lacks consistency ... so we'll see if he can improve on this week with another solid week.

I found he played well the early games, but the numbers wouldn't show because the team played poor defensively in front of him. Guys like Wilson Baca Gomes and Eastman are getting more and more comfortable at this level....and it's helping Rio's numbers.

I was just looking at the Q site and they have a little highlight mashup video for the players of the week... WTF is up with that? They put in a 10 sec picture of Rio and then a 2 min highlight reel of Giroux... you're not going to tell me they couldn't find video of Rio.
