Toronto, ON Ð The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Nicola Riopel of the Moncton Wildcats is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending September 30, 2007.
Riopel, an 18 year-old native of St-Pie-de-Bagot, Quebec registered three victories this past week maintaining a 1.00 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage. Riopel made 26 saves on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 in a 4-1 victory over the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Two nights later, Riopel turned aside all 28 shots he faced for a 2-0 shutout victory over the PEI Rocket. Riopel recorded 37 saves yesterday as he guided the Wildcats to a 3-2 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. RiopelÕs efforts this past week earned him a star in each of his three starts in net.
Riopel was a 1st round selection of the Wildcats in the 2005 QMJHL Entry Draft.
Tyson Sexsmith of the Vancouver Giants was the Western Hockey League Nominee after recording a 0.97 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage. Sexsmith posted a 2-0-0-1 record with one shutout during three starts this past week. Cody St. Jacques of the Guelph Storm was the Ontario Hockey League nominee after he registered a 0.500 goals-against average and a .980 save percentage. St. Jacques posted a 2-0 record last week.
Each week the CHL recognizes the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week and will present the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Year Award to the CHL's top netminder at the conclusion of the 2007-08 season.
