The Cats will be looking to end the weekend on a winning note tomorrow as they host the Gatineau Olympiques. Gatineau is coming off a 5-4 shootout win in Saint John Saturday night, while the Cats won 3-2 at home against the Rimouski Oceanic to end a six game losing skid.
Riopel in nets and the Cats win 5-3 with an empty netter.

Under one minute left in the 3rd period. It's pretty obvious that the Wildcats are going to lose, being down 4-2, short handed and Eagles being given a penalty for goaltending interference.
I honestly believe that coaching cost this team this game. The powerplays were in the vicinity of 11 to 5, with the Olympiques scoring on their first 4. The 4th goal was technically at even strengh, but with the Wildcat player unable to rejoin play, it was a 5 on 4 goal.
Here's my beef. Everyone knew coming in that the Olymiques absolutely love passing the puck to the point during the powerplay. They always play up high and count on those point shots getting through to create scoring chances. But what do we see the Wildcats do? They do not play the box. They play some sort of distorted diamond, with one player covering both d-men, the other forward never going up higher then the half boards to cover the opposing player placed there and both defense down low at the net.
First Gatineau powerplay, point shot goes through, scores. Second Gatineau powerplay, point shot goes through, scores. Third Gatineau powerplay, defenseman pinches in slightly on the far side and is completely open for the shot, scores. Fourth powerplay, the guy has enough time to pick the puck out of the air, settle it on the ice with his glove, take his shot unchallenged and scores.
During all four occasions, the shots came from up high to either score or create the chance which would eventually bring a goal. And what did the coaching staff do to chance things up? Absolutely nothing. Every time, it was the exact same formation as the first and everytime, the puck ended up in Gatineau's net.
On the flip side, the powerplay. When is Flynn going to realize that Pianosi does absolutely nothing of value except waste time on the powerplay? When is he going to settle to playing the powerplay down low. The Wildcats have some skill. Mardquart, Magnan, Eagles, Brannon, they can play down low. But no, same formation, no movement, no risk, no results. Or if you want to play up high, why put Magnan, who is a down low playmaker at the point? Why not try Labelle at the point? He's been working hard, proved last year that he could become an offensive threat and has a hell of a shot.
Why are Wilson and Herr still in the stands? Obviously the current lineup is not getting the job done. Wilson is a good passer and does good breakouts, while Herr brings some toughness. The team keeps losing and the same players are constantly playing.
I know some people will jump on me for these comments, but think about it. We have almost the exact same team as last year, but are right now getting the last playoff spot in our division while last year at this time, we were challenging Lewiston for first and ahead of the Screaming Eagles. What has changed? Welton, MacDonald and Gaudet have left. Granted. They were important pieces, but our main problem is scoring and it's not as if the Wildcats had a dominant powerplay last year anyways.
So far this year, this coaching staff has not given me any reason at all to give them a passing grade. I know we do not have the most talented team, but this "untalented" bunch did something last year. So far this year? At least Bathurst is in our division...

The team keeps losing and the same players are constantly playing. I would like to see both these guys get back in.. but I heard a rumour that Wilson has a foot problem. Not sure if this is true, but I heard this in passing around the rink. Our defense isn't really the huge problem right now, but I would still like to see them get in, change things up.

I thought Cats gave a decent effort Today, PK killed them, shots from the point for Gatineau, get threw everyone and in the net, 1st 3 goals were like that, Unsportsmanlike Penalty on Morehouse was a joke, real killer to Cats... Kinda shocked Riopel didn't play... Lavigne couldn't be blamed for PP Goals... Gotta love Sill-Brannon-Morehouse line, if all 4 lines worked as hard as them, Cats would be all set!

Why are Wilson and Herr still in the stands? According to the Q Injuries report, Herr has a sprained ankle.

Well that was meh. I thought the Cats came out and played well in the first. The Gatineau goalie Clearmont (?) made some good saves early on and I thought he was lucky more than anything in this game. I thought the line of Sill-Brannon-Morehouse was buzzing most of the night. It seemed like every time that Morehouse was on the ice, he drew a penalty. I don't think Lavigne played bad, he wasn't really much to be blamed for any of the goals.. was surprised to see him in nets today, actually. The reffing tonight was.. HORRIBLE. Wow. So many cheap calls, especially the one on Morehouse off a faceoff.. not too sure what that was about. . I'm getting really frustrated watching Barberio.. especially on the PP. It seems every time he gets the puck, he panics. There were so many times that he would fan on the puck.. seems like he's very nervous out there.
I know we don't have the most skilled team.. but I think this team is going to lose it's fair share of games this year. A lot to do with us losing AMac, Welton and Gaudet. Our PK is horrible. Gaudet was the king of the PK. I know we have Sill, but still. And Losing AMac and Welton on the PP and on the point in regular situations has really hurt us. They contributed a lot to our PP and our offense. They both combined for 120 points last year.. that's a lot. Our PP has looked better the past two games, but our PK is the big thing right now. Gatineau scored 3 PPG's today and actually almost had 4. Without that it's a lot closer and the Cats could have won this game. Their focus this week in practice should be getting the puck on net and their PK most of all.

If what has been posted about Herr and Wilson are true, then I am making my mea culpa and retract my statement. However, I stand on the rest of my rant.

Don t know why people are so high on Marquardt being on the PP! What waste!he loses the puck more than anyone on that line. I say sit Marquardt out for a game.........he ain t doing nothing out there anyway! Brannon Sill Morehouse were a force out there today! Turning points....the 3 posts in a row......the Assholf. Better team effort overall specially the first 2 periods!

I thought that was the best game we have seen the Cats play in quite a while. They were taking some shots on the PP and clearing our zone much better 5 on 5. Marquardt was hitting again and had a very good game. Sill was once again the best Cat on the ice though. Gomes does not seem to be able to handle the puck cleanly but at least he will shoot it. That penalty against Morehouse at the end of the first was a joke. This ref needs more experience or else a move back to house league. He ruined what started out as a good game.

I don't think he really ruined it. The cats only being able to score on one out of 11 power play chances is what ruined it.
