The Cats return home to play the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Sunday afternoon. The Cats are coming off a huge comeback shootout win in Cape Breton on Friday night.. they won 4-3. The Sags are coming of an embarassing 10-2 loss in Bathurst on Friday night. The Sags are in Saint John on Saturday night before heading to Moncton.
Big question.. who will we see in nets for the Cats? Will Riopel finally return to the net or will Flynn once again go with Lavigne, who was solid in the win against Cape Breton.
Cats win.. 4-1.

My guess Lavigne will get the call, I'll say 3-2 Cats, it must be time for Marquardt to have a good game, he's been floating around the last 3-4 games.....

Sags 3 in 3days.........Cats should breeze true this one! The last time the Sags played a 3-in-3 they lost the first two games to Victoriaville and Quebec and then won IN Baie-Comeau, one of the top teams in the league so far. If the Cats think they're going to breeze through this one they won't win.

I think we'll see Riopel in nets tomorow night, but probably on a very tight leash. If he struggles any bit at all, including if the team wins, he doesn't get the next start.
Hoping for a Wildcats win. Chicoutimi will be playing a 3rd game in 3 nights. It will probably be a very frustrating game to watch, as both teams are very offensively challenged (Chicoutimi even more so!), but Chicoutimi is very strong defensively and this being their 3rd straight, odds are they will be playing ever more defensively then they usually would. Should be a tight low scoring affair. I call 2-1 Cats.

5-1 Moncton. Lavigne in nets. MacAusland finally nets one, maybe two. He's due.

A lot of snow overnight, feels like real winter, a Sunday game when there isn't school or work (for most people) the following morning...
One thing I hope for is a good game tonight! With the improved play of this team after a horrible october, they deserve as much!

Anybody else getting tired of paying good money to watch refs and linesmen ruin good games?
(Just had to say something out of frustration)

I seriously think that charron forgot that there was another team on the ice in this game, as WC's got 6 penalties and 1 For chi. The two he gave brannon were perfecly leagal checks.

I'd like to say that the Wildcats played a perfect first period, but even then they were struggling, as they still got outshot by Chicoutimi. The only difference is that they capitalized on their chances.
Anyone blaming Charron and the linesmen for the loss should rewatch the game on archives. The only bad call made by Charron was the last him by Brannon. Other then that, he nailed everything the Wildcats made and missed some too (Lavigne's slash to Paré in the 3rd for example). The only thing I didn't like about his reffing is how he let Lavigne get hit a couple of times too many, but that's often how the game is reffed nowadays. The Saguenéens were very disciplined, while Moncton played themselves out of the game.
Why was Wilson sitting this game? He's been playing very well since being back in the lineup. If it's for performance reasons, why is Gomes still on the ice? He was directly responable for Chicoutimi's 2nd goal, leaving Lagacé and the puck behind the net.
I was impressed tonight with Boyle's play. Seemed solid and he is getting better. Started hitting a lot more too I find. Even Pianosi played a decent game. Got a good shot off in the 2nd, didn't put himself in trouble defensively and didn't try to do too much.
MacAusland is going to be very good. Another strong performance. Magnan played very solid. A perfect pass to Mardquart, a perfect shot for a goal and even defending Lavigne and going to the box for it. Mardquart had a good game too I found. Had some good chances, got a goal, had some hits. He wasn't as dominant as he can be, but if he consistently played like tonight, I think we could be satisfied.
Brenton had a good game I found. Used his speed effectively, getting a good scoring chance in the process. Labelle had a so-so night. That's not the kind of effort that will give him 1st or 2nd line ice time, but it will keep him in the lineup. Still need more from him. Lessard played a good game too, as did Lavigne. Wonder if the hot hand will change?
That being said, it is completely unacceptable that the Wildcats lose against Chicoutimi when they're in the 3rd game in 3 nights, and get dominated in the process. I can take being beaten by their goalie (who can do it by himself), but the shots are indicative of the play in this game.
The Wildcats quit forechecking from the beggining of the 2nd onwards. I couldn't stop but noticing in the 1st period how even if Chicoutimi's defensemen would wrap the puck around the boards, a winger would still be there to apply some pressure. Starting in the 2nd, Chicoutimi only had to wrap the puck around the boards, because only one player was forechecking and then he had to go chase the puck with the new player. Everyone else was backed up. This made the breakouts for the Saguenéens a lot easier. This is Chicoutimi for God's sake! Their offense sucks! You gotta pressure their defense!
Again the penalty kill sucks, and again we see the diamond formation in a situation that does not call for it! Once Chicoutimi got the hang of it, you saw them playing with the diamond a lot, forcing Moncton players in situation that they did not feel comfortable in (IE Baca having to go to the higher slot to try to contest an open shot). This Chicoutimi team's powerplay is worst in the league! No way should it go 2 for 6!
Lastly, even though I said that Charron was calling the game the right way, why didn't Flynn open the bench door to have a talk with Charron? Put some pressure on him. It can't hurt unless you exagerate it! Don't pull a Martel, but make yourself clear: you don't appreciate his way of reffing. Maybe it gives you nothing, but maybe you get something out of it. Plus, it puts the crowd into it.
My opinion on the coaching staff remains the same after this game, whatever thedoubled can think, and the opinion is not a positive one.

You can go on about the Ref and whatever all you want.. but we played horrible today. Our defence sucked. As much as I wanted to see Baca in.. he was BRUTAL I thought. I thought the Referee did miss some things and the hit Brannon did that got him a penalty were out in left field. But we didn't help ourselves tonight. Chicoutimi didn't play like the team that was playing their 3rd game in 3 nights.
