Marcel-Robert Trophy finalists revealed
BOUCHERVILLE, Wednesday, February 20, 2008 – The five finalists for the Marcel-Robert Trophy, which is awarded each year to the TELUS Scholastic Player of the Year during the Golden Puck Awards Gala in April, were selected today by a League-mandated committee composed of Denis Arsenault, the Director of the QMJHL education policy, Pierre Leduc, the Director of the CSR as well as the Hockey Operations Assistant, and Guy Darveau, the President of the Marcel-Robert committee.
In the past few weeks, each team had submitted a candidate who was rewarded with a $400 bursary. The five finalists will merit an additional $400 bursary. To determine the winner, each finalist will go through an interview process, which will measure their analytical skills, their understanding of current events as well as their performance during the interview.
The interviews will be held in Montreal, on Monday, March 3, and will be conducted by the members of the Marcel-Robert committee: Guy Darveau, Willy Palov, of the Chronicle Herald in Halifax, Natacha Llorens, the coordinator of the anti-doping program for the RCMP, Normand Shaffer, the director of cégep@distance, and Nicolas Laplante, student and hockey player at Moncton University as well as the 2004 Marcel-Robert Trophy winner.
The TELUS Scholastic Player of the Year will be awarded the sum of $500 and the "Guy Lafleur" student-athlete bursary worth $6,000.
