SEA DOGS EARN TITAN-IC WIN Saint John Defeats Acadie-Bathurst 6-4 At K.C. Irving Regional Centre
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, December 7, 2007
BATHURST, NB --- The Saint John Sea Dogs showed incredible resolve on Friday night, earning a 6-4 road win over Acadie-Bathurst despite missing several key players due to a recent bout with the injury bug.
In an exhilarating match that showcased thrilling end-to-end action throughout, the Sea Dogs managed to emerge victorious over the red hot Titan, exacting revenge upon their provincial rivals after having suffered a 3-2 loss at Harbour Station this past Wednesday.
Veteran net minder Travis Fullerton earned the win between the pipes for Saint John, making 27 saves on 31 shots. His counterpart, Titan goalie Antoine Tardif, suffered the loss in net for Acadie-Bathurst, surrendering a quintet of goals after having stymied the Sea Dogs’ offence in dynamic fashion in their previous meeting earlier in the week.
The Sea Dogs received offensive production from Payton Liske, Michael Kirkpatrick (2), Scott Howes (2), and Alexandre Leduc on Friday night, while Mathieu Perreault, Tomy Joly (2), and Eric Faille all scored for the Titan in a losing effort.
Scott Howes got Saint John on the scoreboard just 0:25 after the opening face-off on Friday, intercepting a pass in Titan territory prior to putting on a stick handling clinic on his way to tucking a backhand past Tardif to earn his 16th goal of the season in impressive fashion.
The home team tied things up 1-1 18:12 later when Tomy Joly earned his 20th tally of the season to send the game to the first intermission with the score tied 1-1 despite Saint John having dominated the shot clock over the course of the opening twenty to the tune of 12-6.
The start of the second period saw Saint John register another quick goal, as Payton Liske scored on a wrist shot 0:59 into the middle frame to make the score 2-1 in favour of the visiting squad from Port City. The Titan again responded however, with Joly tallying his second of the night 4:20 after Liske’s unassisted marker.
Michael Kirkpatrick then put Saint John up 3-2 midway through the second period, diving through the Acadie-Bathurst goal crease to tap a rebound into an open Titan net, with Keven Charland and Pascal Amyot registering assists on the successful scoring play.
The Sea Dogs then went up by two when Howes earned his second goal of the contest on the power play, sliding the puck past Tardif on a swooping forehand shot after being set up by Chris DiDomenico’s pass/shot from the point.
Travis Fullerton made some stellar stops over the course of the second period, turning aside eight of the nine shots he faced to give his team a 4-2 lead as Friday’s match reached the forty minute mark.
Yet another early marker by Saint John accompanied the opening of the third period, as Alexandre Leduc scored a spectacular goal 1:01 into regulation’s final frame, taking a feed from DiDomenico deep in Titan territory and out-manoeuvring Tardif with an impressive deke, finishing the play off with a tap-in backhand shot which put the Sea Dogs up by a field goal.
The home team pulled to within two of the visitors’ lead 5:10 into the third, with Eric Faille tallying a short-handed marker to make the score 5-3.
A huge pad save by Fullerton off of the stick of Dany Masse a moment later kept the Titan from improving their goal total further, as Acadie-Bathurst continued to apply heavy pressure in Sea Dogs territory.
On the power play, Mathieu Perrault then pulled the Titan to within immediate striking distance of Saint John, scoring his 21st goal of 2007-08 with 10:17 remaining in regulation to make the score 5-4.
That would be as close as Acadie-Bathurst would get however, as an empty net tally by Michael Kirkpatrick sealed the deal on Friday, as Saint John escaped northern New Brunswick with a hard-fought 6-4 victory at the expense of their divisional rivals.
Up next for the Sea Dogs are back-to-back games versus the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles this weekend at Harbour Station. After facing each other on Saturday night at 7:00pm, the two divisional rivals will do battle again on Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm.

I really couldn't have cared less about players coming out for the three stars as I left when dumbass threw his stick. From my angle it looked as though the puck was going to slide outside the goal post anyway. What a doofus.

I heard a rumor that they thought Howes not coming out for his second star was such a TRAVESTY that they took away that empty net goal, and thus his hat trick. Maybe Howes felt guilty getting a star when we all know if any Sea Dog deserved one, it was Chamberland. ;D

Sure wish we had all our guns this weekend cuz it's going to a huge 2 game set with the Eagles Deer already predicted a sweep by the Dogs.......hope he's right . Even with all our injured players? Wow. I hope he's right too. He very well could be but there's about an equal chance they sweep us I'd say. Should be two very good games this weekend. Hopefully we get a big crowd out for them.

The Eagles have won three games in the last 11. Our kid are on a pretty good roll. I think a sweep is very likely.

Road Warriors QMJHL: Saint John kicks off busy weekend with key victory in Bathurst
Andrew McGilligan Telegraph-Journal Published Saturday December 8th, 2007 Appeared on page C14
BATHURST - Two nights after losing to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at home, the Saint John Sea Dogs played inspired hockey picking up a 6-4 road win Friday night in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
Saint John entered the game minus four starting forwards, but a solid team effort and timely saves from goaltender Travis Fullerton gave the team its 20th win of the year, tying a franchise record.
Scott Howes and Michael Kirkpatrick had a pair of goals each while Payton Liske and Alexandre Leduc added singles.
Tony Joly had two goals for the Titan while Mathieu Perreault and Eric Faille chipped in with one apiece.
"I'm proud of those guys, we were in tough tonight," said head coach and general manager Jacques Beaulieu. "We challenged the guys tonight"¦but that's a heck of a hockey team (in Bathurst)."
With the ice barely dry, the Sea Dogs opened the scoring 25 seconds into the first period. Howes stole the puck from Jonathan Laberge at the blue-line, drove to the net and beat Titan starter Antoine Tardif with a deke for 1-0 Saint John lead.
Acadie-Bathurst tied the game at 18:37 of the opening frame when Saint John missed a chance to clear the zone. The puck ended up on the stick of the hottest player in the QMJHL - Joly - who ripped it by the left pad of Fullerton. Just like the first period, the Sea Dogs scored in the first minute of the second. In his second game back from injury, Liske stopped a clearing attempt by Mathieu Labrie and headed in all alone on Tardif. The Onatario product fired the puck over the glove of Tardif for a 2-1 Saint John advantage.
Once again, just like the first period, a failed Sea Dogs clearing attempt found its way to Joly who squeaked his second of the contest through a crowd in front and behind Fullerton at 5:19 of the second. The tie didn't last long thanks to some hard forechecking by Saint John. After keeping the play in the Acadie-Bathurst zone, a point shot from Pascal Amyot was deflected in front and sat in the crease until a diving Kirkpatrick chipped it into the open net. The goal gave Saint John a 3-2 edge at the halfway point of the second.
The lead bulged to 4-2 at 13:07 on a power-play marker for Saint John. Chris Di Domenico, who was benched for the start of the second, sent a pass to Howes in front who spun around and shoveled the puck by Tardif. This time the Sea Dogs waited until two seconds after the first minute of the third before scoring.
Di Domenico flipped a pass on a broken play in front of Tardif to Leduc who made a nice move to his backhand to beat the Titan goalie for a 5-2 lead.
The Titan got it back to a two-goal game at 5:10 of the third while shorthanded. Faille used a Saint John defenceman as a screen in firing a wrist shot by Fullerton.
After the goal, the Sea Dogs were under siege from the Titan. Fullerton couldn't stop everything as the Acadie-Bathurst power play struck midway through the third. Perreault used a toe drag to find space before snapping a shot over the right shoulder of Fullerton to cut the lead to 5-4.
Saint John got an insurance marker thanks to Titan defenceman Carl Chamberland. A clearing attempt rolled towards the Titan net as they pulled the goalie for an extra attacker. Kirkpatrick was credited with the marker.

Interesting to see Dido was benched... Not only interesting.....almost shocking ....does anyone have any idea what he did to deserve being benched......he always seems to play a good two way game, and seems to be a good team guy.....strange, on a more positive note Dido is tied for second in league scoring with Voracek and tied for first in goals with Monahan. **EDIT** The Sea Dogs have tied last years totals of points(43) and wins(20) in game #31 of the season. *AWESOME*
