Sea Dogs defenseman Simon Despres will play for the elite team at the impending international event, joining Screaming Eagles players Olivier Bellavance-Roy (goaltender) and Phillipe Fontaine (forward) as the only QMJHL East representatives on Team Quebec. Simon will be joined on the blue line by Mikael Tam of the Quebec Remparts, Hubert Labrie of the Gatineau Olympiques, Charles-Olivier Roussel of the Shawinigan Cataractes, Charles Landry of Drummondville Voltigeurs, Gleason Fournier of the Rimouski Oceanic, and Ryan Kavanagh of the Lac St-Louis Lions (QCMAAA).

Despres is currently enjoying a standout rookie campaign with the Sea Dogs after having been selected with the number one overall pick at the 2007 QMJHL Entry Draft this past summer. The 16-year old native of Laval, QC has tallied 1G-3A-4P thus far this season in addition to 14 PIM and 22 SOG.
Simon’s Saint John team mate, rookie centre Steven Anthony, will also be appearing at the ’08 World U-17 Hockey Challenge as a member of Team Atlantic. Despres and Anthony will not meet in the round robin portion of the tournament, but may face off against one another in the elimination round.

Good for Simon to be named to these all star type teams, but I sure hope we have some help lined up on the blue line...between the 26th and Jan.5th the dogs play 5 games and one on the 6th that he most likely will miss too.....Good for Despres, not so good for our team. Congrats to Steve Anthony too, he's a little easier to replace in the lineup at this time though....Should be a real "interesting" Holiday period for the Dogs.
