SEA DOGS ACQUIRE FORWARD SCOTT HOWES FROM VOLTIGEURS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Tuesday, October 2, 2007
SAINT JOHN, NB --- Saint John Sea Dogs Head Coach/General Manager Jacques Beaulieu announced today that the team has acquired 20-year old forward Scott Howes from the Drummondville Voltigeurs in exchange for two draft picks; Drummondville receives both a fourth and ninth round selection at the 2008 QMJHL Entry Draft from Saint John in the trade
“We’re very happy to be adding Scott to our roster,” said Beaulieu. “He’s a smart, talented player that does a lot of things well and we really think that he’ll be a strong addition to our club.”
In seven games with the Voltigeurs this season, Howes, a native of Toronto, ON, has tallied 1G-5A-6P-15PIM. Last year, his first in the QMJHL, Howes played in 47 games for Drummondville, registering 25G-17A-42P in addition to 53PIM. In 2005-06. the 5’11”, 190 lb. left wing skated for the Wexford Raiders (OPJHL), scoring 15 goals and adding 16 assists for 31 points in 42 games.
The Sea Dogs (4-2) are currently on a three-game winning streak after having defeated the Moncton Wildcats by a score of 3-2 this past Saturday night at Harbour Station. Saint John next hits the ice this coming Friday, October 5, for a road contest against the 4-2 Halifax Mooseheads. The following night, the Sea Dogs return to Harbour Station for a 7:00pm match versus the Quebec Remparts on Saturday, October 6. Tickets to this Saturday’s game are available by calling the Harbour Station Box Office at (506) 657-1234.

I doubt anybody is going the other way really. Howes is a good player but has had injury issues and was off to a slow start this year. If anything I wouldn't be surprised the player the other way is like...Pard, if there actually is anything going at Xmas. I can't see it being a major player. I'm more worried about what is going to Baie Comeau out of the Picard-Hooper deal.

Interesting trade indeed, I figured with all the rumors of Gallant coming to the team and our top 2 lines working very well together that aquiring a bottom 6 player would be the way to go but now adding Howes to the lineup this all chances......................I am having a hard time figuring out where Howes goes in our lineup and who will be back in the stands.

Well I am making the assumption Howes hops onto the second line. Who moves down? I'm thinking Leduc. K. Charland is struggling, but last year he and Leduc seemed to mesh well so maybe they get back together on a line? As for who becomes a scratch...crap I don't know. I could see it being a revolving door of sorts involving several players. Those younger guys aren't use to a 70 game schedule and will be needing nights off here and there. Not that I am disappointed with how Steven Anthony has played just far but I think taking a seat and watching the game from the stands for a game or two could help him improve. Same for Kirkpatrick. A chance to rest up and study the way the game is played.

It nice to have a bit of depth up front for the first time in 3 years, makes for many different possible scenario's and healthy competition which is a good problem to have.

A little too early to be worrying about people burning out and needing days off to make it through the year. Plus we're playing good right now. Pard would have got his chance but not likely until the team starts to struggle, or someone looks tired, is minorly banged up, etc etc. You don't tinker with the lineup when you are 4-2 and on a three game winning streak.[/quote] this is almost canukle head territory ;D

this is almost canukle head territory ;D Jesus Christ. I'll include instruction manuals with my posts from now on just for you MVP. ;D Yes six games into the season is too early to worry about days off, but with some of these guys use to 30-40 games seasons, you have to worry about it in the future. Thus why I said Pard would have got his chance at some point, be it from injury, fatigue, slumping, etc etc. Howes is completely different. He's likely to play with Hooper and really add some punch to our second line and PP unit. You make room for a guy like Howes. Not for a Pard. Thus someone out of Anthony, Kirkpatrick, Gallant, Thomas, Stoddard and if he doesn't pick it up, K. Charland, have to sit to make room for him. If you rotated those 5-6 guys in and out, they'd still play 4 out of every 5 games or 5 out of every six. That still makes them all "regulars" and allows some time for rest and off-ice learning the game at this level, which is likely a good thing for the younger ones. You cannot compare Howes to Pard at all. You don't tinker with your team with borderline players when things are going good, but Howes is not some borderline player with his best Q years ahead of him. He's 20. Make sense now?

What exactly is Canucklehead territory? I change my opinion when there is something shown to me that I didn't know about before giving my initial opinion. As far as the trade goes I have little knowledge about Howes but it seems from what other people are saying we got a pretty decent player I can see Pard being the player dealt to Drummondville at Christmas not sure how far his home is from Drummondville but seems to make sense to me.
