I'm not sure about "contenders"...it's too early to say. But at this point, where there are few teams that look like bona fide favourites, who knows? In any case, Saint John just raised their chances of making a deep playoff run.

Well before the season I picked the Dogs to be 5th with this they could crack the top 4 which I think is a reasonable goal now. Halifax is going to be tough to beat no matter what we do they are very deep and once they solidify their goaltending they are gonna win alot of games.
It's very early in the season but the Rocket D is gonna need to get better I had them pegged to be a top 4 team their coach appears to be a pain in the ass and may not have the players on board with him from the sounds of things.
Lewy lost a couple key players and I'm not sure if Bernier will be back even though Delmas is still one of the leagues top tenders IMO but they could possibly drop down too this season is just getting better all the time! WOOOOOOO!!!!! ;D

I don't think you have a run for the cup(I don't expect a third year expansion team to be a real contender) but still a good move. I think this division is so wide open that any team that wants to be a contender could be if they make the right moves. The league is kind of weak this year so you never know. Saint John could still finish near or at the bottom of the division, or they could be right there at the top fighting. Also, not to get anyone's hopes here up, but Halifax made game 7 of the league semi-finals in their 3rd year in the league.

He has been skating with McGill. Good move by Saint John here, I assume there is more going to Baie Comeau once trading for 19's opens again.

Dogs secure serious offensive talent QMJHL Alexandre Picard-Hooper is a former 50-goal man with Baie Comeau
Andrew Mcgilligan Telegraph-Journal Published Tuesday September 18th, 2007 Appeared on page B10
SAINT JOHN - What appeared to be a bright outlook for the Saint John Sea Dogs this season just got a whole lot brighter.
Saint John gave its offence a shot in the arm on Monday, acquiring high-scoring forward Alexandre Picard-Hooper from the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
In return, the Drakkar received a handful of draft picks, including a third and fifth-round pick in the 2008 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League entry draft as well as third-round selection in 2009. The Sea Dogs also picked up a sixth-round pick in 2009 from Baie-Comeau.
Saint John head coach and general manager Jacques Beaulieu said Picard-Hooper adds offensive punch to the team, especially on the power play. The 20-year-old Montreal native had 11 power-play goals last season.
"We were looking to add some offence and special teams is a big part of the game now," Beaulieu said.
The deal was a long time coming, said Beaulieu, who's been working on the trade since August.
"We didn't want to give up a young player," he said. "By giving up draft picks we paid quite a bit for (Picard-Hooper), but we feel we've added a premier player to our lineup."
Last season, Picard-Hooper was 15th in league scoring with 93 points (32 goals and 61 assists) and was named the scholastic player of the year. His best offensive season was the 2005-06 campaign when he finished with 100 points.
Chris Di Domenico, the Sea Dogs' leading scorer through two games with five points, said adding Picard-Hooper shows the organization has confidence the team can win this season.
"It shows they're going to go out and get key players and that gives guys more confidence and gets them to work harder," Di Domenico said.
The only sticking point in adding Picard-Hooper is his age. Saint John now has four 20-year-olds on its roster, which is the maximum a team can carry. Beaulieu said it leaves the team with a tough decision, but did add that either Jordan Knox, Travis Fullerton or Francis Charland will be leaving the club.
"We're going to sit down as a group and make a decision in the next couple of days," Beaulieu said. "We're not going to let it linger."
Fullerton is the least likely to be moved as he's the only goalie on the team with QMJHL experience. As for the other two, Knox still hasn't received his release from the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League and needed special permission from QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau to play in the Sea Dogs' 6-3 win over the Prince Edward Island Rocket on Sunday. Francis Charland didn't play Sunday and despite being a talented player, he's struggled with injuries over the past few seasons.
One thing is for sure, Picard-Hooper will be in the lineup for the Sea Dogs' home opener on Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

People are saying he is going to play with Dido, I can't see it unless it's on the power play. I think the lines should be Liske-Dido-Sparling F.Charland-Anthony-Hooper Gauthier-Leduc-K.Charland Gallant-Stoddard-Thomas
Esposito 1st year he played with Radulov and I think this would be a good learning experience for Anthony, playing with two 20 yr olds. If Anthony cannot produce then throw Stoddard in the mix. You need two good scoring lines in this league, and Dido can produce without Hooper on his line. I think you keep Fullerton until Christmas time. Mayer only played 20 something games up until this point, and with a veteran goalie like Fullerton, he can be a mentor to Mayer. There no better 1-2 tandem in this league than Mayer and Fullerton. I would get rid of Knox. He was pretty much invisible Sunday in P.E.I. I know it was his first game, but he was brought here to produce, not to play with Gallant and Thomas.

My take on this ....a young player from the Sea Dogs will come to Baie Comeau and the draft picks go back to you all at the trade deadline

I guess for me I can't think of many teams right off the top of my head that have a potential 100pt producer on their 2nd line could happen sure but seems alittle strange to me. OT: Seen Mayer and Stich today I assume one of them knows the others language cuz I have no damn clue what the hell they were talking about ;D (my guess is it's czech)

Good move by the Dogs, I agree with Brec7 that the division is still wide open tho and in no way dose this guarantee the dogs anything. Other then that I’m curious about who’s going back to BaC this seems like a pretty cheep price right now for the Dog's and If this in fact how cheep he was it makes you wonder why other teams didn’t make a harder push at him, unless they know something we don't

I suspect there might be more later but there isn't really alot of teams that fit what PH was looking for maybe 3 or 4. Halifax was likely out because they really don't need him at this point so there's no point in giving up anything. Which left the Dogs, Devils, Rocket, and maybe Moncton personally for what it's worth I think it was the Dogs all along based on comments made over the past few weeks.
