I wanna be there by I'll likely be running Daddy Day Care that day They will only be practices led by the assistant coach, I wouldn't think you would miss much. Most of the action will take place the following day when the intersquad games take place. Still a week away...........hard to read on how other camps are going and still having to wait 7 days

I wouldn't let the fact that someone has said that if Robert Mayer had been in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, he would of been a 1st rounder, be any indication of being a Bernier or Helenius type goaltender. The fact of the matter is, the 2007 NHL draft was a weak draft on goaltenders, especialy compared to the 2006 draft when you had guys like Helenius, Bernier, Varlamov, Irving all going within the first 26 picks.
The first goaltenders takin in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft weren't until the 36th and 48th pick. With Antoine LaFleur being the 48th pick. The first goaltender takin was an '87 born, the second goaltender takin (LaFleur) was an '88 born. In no way do I call LaFleur an ' outstanding goaltender', especialy to be the second goaltender picked in the Draft.
So to say that Mayer would of been a first rounder in the draft gone by could of been reasonable. But if the goaltender stock had been high like the previous year, I'm not so sure.

You say LaFleur is not an outstanding goalie then what do you call Timo? He was taken a round later.

While writing my comment I new that exact question would arise. I was mearly making a point out of the goaltenders takin from last years crop in the NHL Entry Draft, non are of the Bernier, Helenius caliber of players.
On a side note, lets not forget that the San Jose sharks drafted Mikka Kiprusoff in the 5th round #116th overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. The same draft that seen other goalies such as Giguere, Biron, and Denis all go in the first round. But also had goalies such as Brian Boucher (1st round), Aaron McDonald (2nd round), Paxton Schafer (2nd round), Scott Roche (3rd round), J. S Aubin (3rd round).
However the San Jose Sharks also drafted Vesa Toskala in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, and in the 4th round at that. I'll take the San Jose scouting instinct for goaltenders over the number at which they've been drafted.

Hmm. San Jose has a lot of successful goaltending draft stories it's true but to point out one example, how about Jason Churchill? Oh yeah they drafted him also. 4th round I believe, just like Toskala. They have their share of failures like everyone else. Who cares anyway? Dealing with people this age is hit and miss to a degree as you are speculating on how the will develop. Both are likely to be solid goalies at this level but only one way to find out and that is to get them in the games.
Also...your two chosen examples are from 1995. Would San Jose still even have the same scouting staff 12 years later? Likely not especially with how they've been getting attention for being so good at drafting goalies in particular. You'd have to think some key scouts that played a role in these acquisitions have moved on to other posts with other teams.

Weather or not Mayer or Timo live up to the billing is yet to be seen. Yes this draft was week on net-minders, however by pointing out that good goalies can go late kinda makes the point about the draft being week a moot point. By saying that even if he was a late pick it has been proven that goalies are notorious late bloomers. I do agree however that the SJ dose some good scouting on net minders.
The only part in this whole comparison of tenders I’d like to know about is the claim that Mayer was supposed to go in the first round. I can't find it any where and I've tried hard. I’ve actually found it hard find anything out about him. I'm not saying I don't believe it but I was wondering if you guys had any info on Mayer and the claim he could have been a first pick I wouldn't mind reading over what this guy is all about. Thanks.

Found a quote from Red Line:
The scouting review, Red Line Report, is eloquent in its praise of Mayer, using such phrases as “very complete” and “very composed.”
“This fabulous underage goaltender was easily the best goalie at the World U-18s and would be a top eight overall pick if available to the NHL this year (2007 NHL entry draft),” stated Red Line.
And Beaulieu was quoted as saying this in an article when we got Mayer:
"I think he's outstanding," said Beaulieu. "Everybody's telling me - GM's and NHL GM's - that he'll be a top-10 NHL pick next year. He's very mobile and very athletic."
That's all I got for the moment. Sorry. In a rush here. Basically all found in that article habh8er referred to.

When should we expect this euro to arrive? Will be arrive late to camp?? It seems the previous 2 seasons that our euro's have arrived to camp late With all this Timo talkI can;t wait to see what this young prospect has to offer From what I heard today, Mayer will be here for the entire training camp.

From what I heard today, Mayer will be here for the entire training camp. Hey Dog Catcher (or anybody for that matter) have you heard anything or can you try to find out who, if anyone, is expected to be late to camp? Other than Sauve perhaps?
