White 8 - Blue 7
Keeping in mind this is the 1st game alot of guys have played in awhile. Here are some of my thoughts:
Goaltenders:
Impressed
Robert Mayer - Played solid made some very nice acrobatic saves as he usually does. The goals he gave up seemed like they all went in off the post. If I remember right he gave up 3 goals.
Karel St. Laurent - Gave up 1 goal in 30 minutes and was solid nothing flashy about his game just used his size to block all the angles and played them very well IMO.
Not so impressed by Spear 5 goals against but really improved in the 2nd period! & Passingham 6 goals against.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Defense
Impessed by
Simon Despres - Really schooled some of the new players, skating has got even better, seems to be picking up right where he left off.
Kevin Gagne - Dynamite skater, very smart plays. He knows when to jump in and he can score. His only downside might be his defensive zone covers his size allows bigger forwards to have their way with him but he knows what he's doing and makes smart plays even in his own end. Great shot! Very accurate!
Nathan Beaulieu - Very good shot and very good skating! Scored on a rocket passed Mayer off the post and in. I can see him playing as the 7th defenseman and not just making it cuz he's JB's son he deserves it IMO.
Not so impressed - Vincent Fournier, Luc Leblanc.
I really didn't notice McEwen and Cowen that much to tell ya the truth so I can't really comment.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Forwards
Impressed
Andrew Howes - At one point we joked that maybe we found Scott's replacement lol. In all seriousness though he was impressive scored a couple goals and nice ones at that. One big time roof daddy on a breakaway beating Passingham. Oh yeah he also had a Hat Trick in the game!
Phillip Richer - played a very solid game made some nice clean passes smart plays seemed to always no where he should be.
Andrew Langan - Impressed me more as the game went on he really started to get his wheels moving but size is still a bit of an issue as he is separated from the puck to easy but he looked good though.
Francois Gauthier - Looked like a man playing a game with a bunch of boys out there! Seems like he might be ready to pick up where he left off in the playoffs.
Steven Anthony - Bigger & Faster! Played a shift with Sparing & Dido and looked right at home there. Looks like he's gonna be spending alot of time crashing the net infact he out Mayer at one point including the net Mayer made the save though
Keven Charland - Played a very good game at both ends of the ice good passing seems to have picked up a step in his skating natural progression I suppose.
Not so impressed
Daniel Crescenzi, Sam McMaster, Paul Hutchings.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other then the obvious of course no need to mention them the top players they impressed as they always do and it was interesting to see Felix play defense lol!
Kyle Dilosa didn't impress nor did he not impress the verdict is still out on that one he had moments where he looked very good and other times when he wasn't making the plays at all. I had expected alittle bit more but again it's only the first day.
