A reputable sports marketing group once told me that a fan base is generally made of the following: Fans forever, they go with the ups and the downs and are always in attendence, next comes the Corporate Fan who support the team as a community minded business (these two groups are called THE CORE and they are the bulk of your season ticket base) and their portion of the total fans comes in at 58 %, next comes the people who occasionally goes to games when their employment allows them or there is nothing else to do and the next group is the ones who when things are going great on the ice they like to be a part of the winning crowd ( these two groups are called WALK -UPS) and there attendence varies with the day of the week, named players coming to town or highly skilled teams coming to town or the local team is preforming very well, these two groups can make up about 19% of total fan base, next there is the special promotional group which could include minor sports, military, regional challenges, promotions for near by communities, charity fund raisers, recognition of former high profiles teams or individuals from the past etc, etc, and the group which is largely made up of parents of players, agents, scouts relatives, billet families, school friends, girl friends, support staff and staff in general (these two groups are called VESTED INTEREST) and thay can account for about 20% of the total base. Based on our average attendence in the 2007-08 which I think was 7, 700 these factors look fairly accurate and at any rate, I found it be pretty impressive, how say you.

A reputable sports marketing group once told me I'm not a reputable sports marketing group, and I could have told you something similar.

Fireball this is the Mooseheads board we all know they are the Mooseheads...For a team rebuilding in last place did not start showing signs of developing until the last two home stands they have got great basic support from fans and it will become greater in time as the Christmas season ends and we turn to hockey in January and February... I see another 1500 more fans in the last part of season too.

I am not sure about that but as we all know the gate has dropped but nobody gets the report from anyone on how many season ticket holders the Mooseheads have these days.

Season ticket sales have declined without a doubt but that can be expected for a number of reasons. Fred is right though, I don't think there has been any official announcement about how much they have dropped.
Beyond that a lot needs to be done to bring the fan base back up. A winning team, a more exciting product in general, an elete player or 2 on the team that people want to come out and see, and hosting the Memorial Cup again will all help to increase the attendence. Although overall I think the novelty of a major junior team has worn off somewhat and the league has become much more kindler and gentler and the animosity with certain teams is no longer there.

They may have declined but they are reeling in new season ticket holders take me for example, this is the first season I have bought Season tickets for a full season(Last season I got the 15 Pack). I believe as they grow into a contender in the next few years; and near the top of the standings again next season the fans will come back. Take for example there recent 4 game winning streak ;suddenly bums were in the seats again of course most of them are Fairweather fans. My bum will be in the seat; regardless of whether we win or lose I paid for season tickets so my bum will be in the seat unless it can't be because personal issues call!!!

. . . of course most of them are Fairweather fans. Why would clients of a women's clothing store come out to Moose games? Did they have a promotion or something? ;D
