I guess we're all worried for no reason.
When asked about the possibility of the Eagles winning the right to host the 2012 Memorial Cup and retaining assets for that season, Durocher felt he’s in good shape. “We’re going to have 2011 and 2012 to get ready,” he said. “Right now, just with my defence, I think I’m going to be all right. We’ll probably have (Alex) Veronneau in goal, (Morgan) Ellis, (Ian) Saab, (Wes) Herrett, J.S. Fournier — there’s my four defencemen for 2012 and at forward, we still have (Olivier) Jodoin, (Vincent Boudreau-Plouffe), (Logan) Shaw, (Viktor) Hertzberg can come back as an overager, (Nick) Parker, (Christoper) Riguse. We have a few guys that I’m not really scared about that and we have a lot of overagers coming back next year we can trade, too.”
Mario is depending a lot on quite a few players not even playing with the Eagles now.
What did we get for all our extra 19 year olds this past year? - 1 3rd round pick if I'm not mistaken. Those players included J C Gauthier, Vincent Lavigeur, Brad Tesink and Michael Stinziani.

Mario is living for now not pie in the sky..He does not have the hosting spot for 2012 Memorial Cup and when he does there will be a fast change in their goals of who plays what players they want and will trade for them quickly too..I remember 2000 when we hosted the Memorial Cup we fired the coach just one month a way from opening up Memorial Cup 2000....So watch for the news of getting to host first...

I think he needs to focus a little less time on grooming his mullet and spend more time realizing how he can save this franchise 3-4 yrs of pain and losing, by selling off some vets this season.
That Maxime Legault trade makes zero sense in my mind.

he is following the game plan of a desperate person, desperate to please the board long enough to resign him. just watch what they do next, it will be amazing..........he is not a g.m.,........... although we never saw much of ward, he had character, like culligan, slaney, and a lot of other famous eagles. To dump him because he was injured tells us a lot, he does not see how important this is. I knew when he picked two captains we were in for trouble.

Legault is a character guy too.... just saying Not saying he isnt a good player. I just don't get the trade as a whole in terms of what CB gave, what they got, how it fits any plans etc.

oh i'm not arguing it would appear this deal makes no sense strategically.. but if the deal was examined solely in terms of the better asset right now.. CB wins big with Ward being injured for (possibly) the season

CB wins big with Ward being injured for (possibly) the season I agree with this, the exchange of assets favour CB IF they were actually close to being a contender.. But apparently Legault still has shoulder issues and needs injections before games....so....that doesnt sound very good.

Ward has a broken collarbone, but legault has a bum shoulder. Ward may be back in action sometime in late february, its a gamble for both teams, but at least with ward we had a guy who wanted to win. Maybe legault wants to win too, maybe he is a good leader. But it does seem like we paid a lot and we really dont know what we have there. It just smells of desperation.

Fred The Moose, I'm not even worried about applying to host the Memorial Cup because that idea has gone out the window along with the idea of rebuilding the franchise before it was too late to prevent disaster.
If the board made this decision or if Mario talked them into it somehow, well they deserve to live with it for the next 2 to 3 years. without making any GM or coaching changes but I really can't see all the Eagles fans who had been used to quality effort and results accepting this plan with its all too predictable results. Mario will not be able to wheel and deal for 2012 because the Eagles will have nothing left to "trade for them quickly". It's surprising that young players on the present roster including Cuzner who actually competes hard each and every shift and Bergeron weren't mentioned in his master plan while 7 non roster players were. I'm confused!
If as you say Fred, Mario is living for now, he is living in a vacuum, not even aware of how strong St. John and Moncton will be when all is said and done.

"THIS IS ALL MARIO".....................I went to wish a Merry X-Mas to a friend of mine who happens to have a connection to the Club , he told me that the ...........Board is quite happy with the way the numbers look ,they told him that they were giving him the freedom to do either Sell or Buy ! That they would support either decision . Now if you read this article you see why he did what he did . I'll take a shot this year and then I will do my re-build . I am already way ahead on this because of kids like Shaw,Fournier,Saab , etc........OK .Now the thing to remember is that if he goes out in the 1st Round ............then what ? When the C.A gives them the final figures, does the Board forget what they said or is 2 rounds part of the deal ? Stay Tuned ?

Every team has players like Fournier, Saab, Herret, Riguse, Boudreau-Plouffe....out of those 5, 1 is in the Q (Fournier)...the reaming 4...Saab is the only one with any upside and thats as a #5 dman...wooot...lets build around a #5 dman!

hal, I read the article and if he really believes that he has the basis for a Memorial Cup team with the players he mentioned, there is something very seriously wrong!
As far as taking a shot this year, I don't like our chances of getting by either St. John or Moncton. Our sometimes top 4 D (nevermind our 5 or 6 D) does not come close to St. John or Moncton.
Maybe the master plan involves slipping to 5th place in the Atlantic to avoid playing St. John and Moncton in the 1st round. This would also fit this teams practice of playing better on the road.
