2009-12-23 Shawinigan Cape Breton Legault, Maxime (1989-03-28) Rd_4, 2010 Rd_2, 2011 Cape Breton Shawinigan Le Sieur, Maximilien (1992-09-27) Ward, Michael (1989-08-13) Rd_2, 2010 Everybody knew that Ward's injury was a lingering one and that he would be out for an extended period of time after Christmas. The word now is that he will not be back before March 15th.
Meanwhile Legault......
If we take into account that Ward would not have contirbuted and will not be back next season, this trade looks good to me. If he remains in the Q as an OA, the scale tilts the other way.

If Legault plays as a OA? He's 20 now.

If Legault plays as a OA? He's 20 now. What ? Is that what that "1989" means beside his name in Chsb's original post ? You have to wonder if Ward's total absence from playing might bring a renegotiation into that deal. Plus ... it is assumed that a current CB player is going back for the 2nd 2011. If Legace doesn't get CB out of Round 1 ... it is bad deal ... they could have done that by standing pat.

yes both are 20, and wards luck is uh........terrible..........but if he was not injured he would have been a big difference to this team.........as he is old school and has tremendous character.........the guy they got is equally good in that department and nobody hits like him.........legault has nhl hitting ability.........but he has been injured as well.........the trade was a good one for the eagles....but they would have never have traded him uninjured..........here is hoping that an uninjured legault shows us just what a good move it is........and also hoping that things work out better for m ward.

Poor Mike Ward had some of the worst luck I've ever seen in a 20-year-old season. The guy came to CB early in August, to start training early and really get ready for the season......only to have it curtailed by this injury and a trade. Others in this thread have indicated Ward's out another 6 weeks - you have to wonder if that'll end up extending into the playoffs. Or considering that Shawinigan is in tough to even get out of the first round (Victo or Drum will be their opponent), you have to wonder if Ward and doctors will end up giving up on a return this season, and just not risking reinjuring himself yet again. If that's the case, and he never plays a game for the Cataractes, you'd have to think a compensatory pick will be going their way from the Eagles.
As for Legault, I've really liked his addition to the team. He's our type of player - hard working, physical, and has really good character. Would have fit in really well on those Ouellet and Culligan-led Eagle teams, and has been a fine fit this year too. As other said, his best attribute is his hitting - he's far and away the best hitter among our forwards. MANY other big forwards on this team could learn from him, and actually I do find the team plays more physical when he's in the lineup showing that example by absolutely pulverizing guys on the forecheck. When he hits, the boards and glass rattle every time - and you know the opposition hears his footsteps coming! No Legault's not a sniper, he's more of a secondary scoring guy whose best work is his physical play - so he shouldn't be judged too much on point production. He too has a nagging (but not overly serious, at least we don't think) injury right now and sat out the Halifax game as a precaution to try and help towards it healing properly.
As for the trade overall and whether it was good or bad....... the fact that Ward might not play another game this season kind of skews the deal in CB's favour. Even if it ended up working out though, I still don't think it was good karma to "get rid of the injured guy." It bit us in the ass with Karl Fournier, guess we might get lucky this time though. And as fivehole said, no way do they trade Ward if he wasn't hurt.

not a bad trade at all.. solid character guy that fits your team well for damaged goods and a mid level prospect

They got him at a reduced rate just to take back an overager. Shawinigan made the deal for next year, so anything they get out of Ward is just a bonus to them. Meanwhile we need a championship to make all our dealings worth it. All about expectations

According to that Ryan Fella on The Eagle , Ward's shoulder is not healing properly and he is out for at least 3 more weeks and quite possibly the rest of the Season . He also said that Shawinigan will most likely receive compensation from The Eagles in the form of a Draft Pick .Too bad , I always liked Ward and the effort he gave .
