just got in mail to day and heres the QMJHL draft 2010 top 5 to watch
Jeremie Fraser D 6-1, 199
Luca Ciampini LW 5-11 186
Andrew Ryan c 6-2, 173
Stefan Matteau 6-0, 185
Frederik Gamelin Lw 5-7, 148
the hockey news also has Ciampini as one of the top 4 players to watch for the 2012 NHL draft.
i think the odds are that Ciampini will be a Moosehead next season as he fits the needs the moose need the most in being a pure sniper but the draw back is his defense play but that can be worked on with the mooseheads system.
thoughts any one

Ciampini is my guess to be #1 Overall but I heard good things about Jeremie Fraser too.
Kinda surprised to see Taylor Burke not in the top 5 ...

Id stay away from Fraser...Burke SHOULD be in the top 5, but its the Hockey News...so im not surprised. Dominic Poulin is going #1 overall if Baie-Comeau wins the coin flip and he isnt even in the Hockey News Top 5.

My sources say that none of the Top Tier Players want to go to Halifax ! Apparently with that in mind , Cam Russell is looking to make a deal with Cape Breton for the First Overall Pick . He is looking for an experienced 20 year old Defenceman and a good solid 19 year old Veteran Forward . Rumour has it that the deal is Kalin Paul and Justin Chiasson for the First Pick ! It's too bad that none of the Top Level kids wanna be Mouseheads but hey ..........................yah gotta play the cards your dealt ! ;D

I know defensively he needs to improve (Gap control is a bit off) but he's got good size and a good shot. Attitude issues? I know it's not an early pick but how do you feel about Matt Bursey from Netherwood? Seems like a good potential pick for Saint John in the #18 spot.

I know 1 person who has watched him quite a bit who thinks hes a legit 1st overall talent, the rest seem to have him in the 5-10 range....and thats based on TALENT, thats before you take into consideration his attitude issues which ive heard is an issue. I like Bursey, hes 5'08 though and isnt a terribly quick skater but he is a sniper, scores goals, and has a nose for the net. I think he is somewhat flying under the radar but I think mid-2nd round is a fair spot for Bursey.

Strictly based on skills, for sure Fraser is top 3 material, but yes, he does have attitude issues. It's like playing Russian roulette, as he is a boom or bust type of player.
BTW, I saw Maxime St-Cyr played a couple of times and my guess is he will be a top 5 pick. Also, the team that will pick Raphael Lafontaine (should go early in 2nd round) will make a very good pick.

From what I have heard, Fraser has a real attitude problem.
Whether it's sceaming at his teamates during practices, breaking stuff in dressing rooms when he's mad or getting a 5 game suspension right before the playoffs (will have missed the first 4 games of probably only 5 playoff games for his team), I have heard some pretty nutty stories.
However, who knows. Maybe someone or an organization will be able to straighten him up. BIG gamble, but could be a huge reward out of this one.

Back to Matteau for a second, to clarify my original comment ... he is the son of former NHLer Stephane Matteau, and he apparently has dual citizenship ... his plan is apparently to join the US NTDP next season.

To me, you don't make that gamble at first overall ... at some point it becomes an attractive gamble, but not at #1. I am not sure I would take a d-man #1 overall in the QMJHL draft. In the NHL you win with horses on the blueline, but you get to keep your players longer than in junior. Plus, d-men often take a bit longer to put it all together, meaning their junior career may come and go before they put all the tools together into a consistent package. If you go back and look at all the drafts in recent history in the Q, can you find even one where in hindsight, a defenseman turned out to have the best QMJHL career of all the players drafted? I bet you would be hard pressed ... guys like Grant, Despres, Sauve, Roussel (even Gormley is headed that route) have all had solid Q careers, but the true superstars to emerge from the draft have been forwards. To me, if you want to snag a d-man in the first round, you should trade down out of the top 5 and possibly out of the top 10 ... better bang for your buck.

What team does Lafontaine play for, and what kind of numbers did he put up this year? Im too lazy to look it up.
Also what's the scouting report on him?
