I was curious as to how many games we were in heading to the third period and left empty handed. I have no other stats to compare it to but to me it seems with a bit of third period success this year we could have come close to getting the 17 points we would have needed to make the playoffs. 12 games we were within 2 goals heading to the third period, 0 points. 27 games we were either tied or within 1 goal, 11 points. Any theories out there for the lack of success in the third? To rationialize it, it could be said that since we had to overcome lack of skill with hard work there may have not been much left in the tank going into the third. Our lack of offensive talent was probably a factor. Maybe there is more to it then that, maybe not. AFTER 2 PERIODS | GAMES | POINTS | WINS | SO or OT Win | LOSS | SO or OT Loss | Behind by 3+ | 13 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 13 | 0 | Behind by 2 | 12 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 12 | 0 | Behind by 1 | 15 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 13 | 2 | Even | 12 | 9 | 1 | 2 | 6 | 3 | Ahead by 1 | 8 | 8 | 3 | 0 | 3 | 2 | Ahead by 2 | 5 | 8 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 0 | Ahead by 3 | 3 | 6 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | TOTAL | 68 | 33 | 11 | 2 | 48 | 7 |

Good job Webb... I was thinking about this earlier today actually. I think the most telling stat is that in 20 games the Moose were tied or leading by 1 going into the 3rd period and they came away from those 20 games with only 6 wins.

Yeah I think alot can be said about fatigue... by the third we dont have as much energy left. Plus the top teams will head into the third and push much harder to not let the game get away from them. Combine that with a young inexperienced team, and defense in particular, and it will lead to a few wins getting away from them. Alternatively, if you look at some of the top teams, you probably see games tied or leading into the third period are probably more often than not won. Hopefully next year, we start seeing some of those losses that slip away reduced.

Even you gotta admit that was a candidate for save of the year. The ref was relentlessly calling penalties against PEI in the 2nd, but honestly, they were all penalties. Rocket played very undisciplined, and hopefully they won't do that against SJ or it will be a short series. It's just unusual to see the refs actually make that many calls. Most of them let a lot go. Great game though... what a way to end the season.

I don't think all the penalties needed to be called but they were... and I agree if we take that many penalties versus SJ we're cooked in 4 and yes it was an entertaining game

Luck is always involved with that kind of circus save, but it was a great effort by Corbeil to get his glove there. Sorry for my Pierre McGuire moment...

Yep it was a nice save.... just not a save of the year candidate.... we've clapped for many great saves by our own goalies and opposing goalies over the years your apology is accepted
