You have to be able to understand the frustration though. Several times over the past 7 years CB has been brought up in the contender category but when it comes time the best hockey... playoff hockey... their best was a 3rd rd crumbling vs. Val D'or. And a couple year before that CB had their best year, I believe, with 100+ points, gets a first round bye and loses to Chi in 5 games. Maybe the feeling is a bit different if they win that Val D'or series but I'm sure it's frustrating. Like I'm sure it's frustrating for PEI fans to always makes the playoffs but never have a top team or be able to make any playoff noise. Like it's frustrating for Halifax fans to have seen the finals several times but not have a championship. Grass is always greener.

And I don't think it would take a massive change in thinking for CB management to please fans. I mean this year or last year were prime opportunities... both year there were clear contenders above where the Eagles were with SNB and Mon this year and Shaw and Drumm last year. Pick one of those years and if they move Slaney and Haddad or Adam and MAcNeil... CB hasn't needed to go for a big rebuild but there's nothing wrong with taking a step back to reload. All they had to do was sell a couple guys and the only downside is a few more losses in Jan-season end of that year but the assets they pick up can improve them for years.
You can say PEI fans were lucky this year and not seeing their team try to contend. Now PEI fans see a bit of the opposite vs. CB as they seem to always be taking a step back from this year for the next year... But I know as a Hali fan it's infuriating to not have a contender but see your team hold on to valuable vets foolishly. The last year has been a breath of fresh air for Moose fans and I think CB fans would appreciate seeing their team take a short term step back for long term gain.

elementz hits the nail on the head with the Sharks comparison. And guess what... in the last few years, the Sharks have gone from being admired for having a consistently strong team to being an organisation that's ridiculed for the lack of post-season success.
The truth is in the middle.
As bois states, a series of 40 wins in a row is definitely an accomplishment.
However, while it takes good management to get there, it also happens because a team is playing in a league with other teams that have no interest in winning 40 games every year. The fact that other teams rebuild and reload (successfully in some cases) helps artificially push CB up in the standings.
Halifax went through a similar string of seasons from 98 to 03, good in the regular season all the time, and they were ridiculed on these boards by many just like CB is. And for good reason... most major junior fans feel it's ridiculous to look for regular season consistency over taking a good shot at a championship.
I personally don't bedgrude when a team goes for it when it makes sense- like it did in 2007 or even 2004. This year, it didn't. That fact is SO obvious (evidenced by both the actual results and the opinion of about 95% of the fanbase) that anyone who disagrees is obviously doing it to shit disturb.

Everyone can say whatever they want but the fact remains that if Mario in fact does get this 3 year deal then Management will remain in tact..........the Coaching Staff will most likely remain in tact.......so the only "FRESH" look to the Organization will come from the new faces on the ice . So we are forced to live with the constant line shuffling , the throwing of the players under the Bus and most of all a Board of Directors and their flunky president who will spend all next season trying to convince us that they are heading in the right direction and on track to a Tremendous 2112 Season climaxing with hosting a Memorial Cup !...................and to top it all off listening to Kenny MacNeil spewing the same crap on the Radio like the Company Man that he appears to be !

I do begrudge going for it with a half assed approach. Adding Bourdon was huge, Beau was a steal for a third and Laberge underperformed. We missed a key ingredient on the second line to complement Culligan and Sheppard and that hurt us like hell. I could live with a third line of Laberge, Slaney and Brannon but giving up another future for a Toby Lafrance or Matt Marquardt may have gotten us there. Because the league was very weak that year, upgrading got us in a position to compete with Val d'or and Lewiston. Go big or stay home is my thought
