That is just it drop you did not beat us on the ice you beat us in the pocket book. LOL If you had purchases a some gutts you might have actually done better at the Cup. Actually they DID beat you on the ice, no matter how your warped whiny mind wants to view it. Suck it up, the sore loser thing was old 2 weeks ago,

Even if it were true that they "beat us in the pocket book" (not saying it is) then it doesn't change the fact that they beat us on the ice as well. The 2 would not be mutually exclusive. If anything, it would be a contributing factor as to how they beat us on the ice. Okay that's my 2 cents now lets just ignore this nonesense and get back on track. This isn't even supposed to be a hockey thread.

I hope to be proven wrong but I can't see this being successful. I also don't see how this team and the Seadogs could co-exist without hurting each other's attendance. I'm assuming their season is similar to that of the NBA which would be about 40 home games that overlap most of the Dogs season. That's about 75 combined home games for regular season only. I can't see the 2 teams combining for an average over 3500 over that many games. The only way it might work is if HS gives both teams a deal on the lease since they wouldn't be the only major tenant, thus allowing them to lower ticket prices, and lowering the break-even point for each. If I'm wrong about when the basketball season takes place and its actually opposite the Q season then I think this will be a great idea. Otherwise, we'd be better off with a minor pro baseball team. They are two different sports and it seems to work in Halifax. Those that like basketball are going to go to the basketball games, those that like the Sea Dogs will go to the Sea Dogs games plus the Sea Dogs have a four month head start on their season. Some fans like myself will go to both. It works in Halifax hopefully it will work here. Many people forget that basketball was invented by a Canadian and is second only to soccer in worldwide popularity. Well I changed my opinion after it was pointed out to me that the b-ball season is nowhere close to as many games as I assumed. Especially now that I see the goal is only 2000 fans per game. Otherwise I would be standing by everything I said, and to some extent I still do. 2 different sports or not, if you can't see how the 2 franchises would be competing for the citizens of Saint John's time and money then I'm not sure what to tell you. Yes there are hardcore hockey fans in the city with no interest in basketball and vice-versa, but as you pointed out the 2 fanbases will not be mutually exclusive. In a bigger city like Halifax its not as much of a concern but the same logic still applies to some extent. If the SJ area ever expereriences the boom most were projecting a few years ago then both franchises would likely be in tremendous shape. That being said, its only 10 regular season home games and not the 40ish as I assumed at first so it shouldn't hurt the Dogs too much if at all. I think there is enough of a base to support both teams for that number of games. No reason it couldn't work in other places like Moncton too. I'm glad to see the Dogs appear to be looking for ways to make this team a partner moreso than a competitor. Hopefully the 2 franchises can be creative and find ways to work together that can be mutually beneficial. I'm curious if Fleaburn will now be doing double duty or if they will have their own mascot. I guess they'll have to name the team before they can worry about that. From a sports fan's perspective it is nice to have more options. I'm sure the bars and restaurants in the uptown area are loving this. I really hope it succeeds. I've never really been much of a b-ball fan myself but I have many friends who are that attend the occasional Sea Dogs game but I know they will now rather attend these games. I'll likely goto a few games but will certainly be interested in the team's success and will follow their results of each game. Perhaps this team will make me a b-ball fan. I'm sure it will. In a way it already has. I wonder if 88.9 or any other station will be doing the games.

You can fully expect the Sea Dogs to work with the Millrats! There is already discussion of potential double bills with the basketball in the afternoon. Sea Dogs will remain the #1 ticket in town for sure and if the 2 sides work together they could put together some good packages for fans of both sports.
I wasn't all that excited early on but the more I did some research of the league and some of it's players and followed that up with the Press Conf. and listening to what they had to say including David Cooper I was pretty much hooked. That being said the QMJHL is #1 for me and it's not even close! lol

Having two different sports teams will bring more fans to the Station on more nights. The Rainmen and Mooseheads seem to co-exist quite well can't see why the same can't happen here. If the two work together who knows maybe they can help each other out with more fans coming out.

I was a bit skeptical at first that the 2 could co-exist until I learned there will only be 10 regular season home games. They can definitely be partners and not competitors. For starters I think season ticket holders for 1 team should be able to buy tickets to the other at a discount. How much and how many tickets? I think 2 per game per season ticket would be reasonable and maybe 15-20%, or round to an even number in that range. I also think that if someone gets season tickets to both they should get an even greater discount off both season tickets. Maybe something closer to 25%. That way they're not giving them away but they are offering enough of a discount that should allow them to sell more tickets to each and get more bodies in the building to help create a better atmosphere.

Has a new name been chosen yet? Wasn't there some sort of competition open to submissions?

We plan to be on the other end of things this year and have every other Q team have to play an odd playoff schedule to accomodate our rink being booked by other shit.
