A quote from John Moore twitter "Its all about getting younger for Mooseheads. 19 year old Bernard was well liked by his teammates and knew he might be dealt. " Am I jumping the gun on this one. Or am I reading this right.

According to Q site Bernard is traded to Noranda for Rimouski's 2011 fifth round pick.

Not totally surprised by the move but at the same time I wasn't expecting him to be dealt right now. He's value was pretty much nothing right now (although 5th isn't bad). I figured we'd hang on to him, hope he has a decent first half and maybe deal him at x-mas. I even thought if he played well enough this season he could be in the picture as a 20.
I don't think Cam was a fan of his. He came into camp last year out of shape, and because of that got injured quite a bit during the season. I always liked his skill level, especially for a big guy, although he didn't use his size to his advantage very much. Wish him well in RN.
I'd say this is a sign Cam is going to bring in a vet or two. Sure we want to get younger, but we need some experience as well. I think you'll see an older player come in and take Bernards spot.
edit: nevermind about an older player taking Bernard's spot. Wuests' blog says Cam wants younger players in his spot. I was dead wrong on that one lol.

They probably took a 5th rather than nothing in September if they put him on waivers.

Good move and continues the trend in the right direction meaning despite our apparent lack of scoring that the vision is still on the future and not trying to piece together a few more goals.
Bernard could break out this year but if the euro Frk is picked he's right-handed and if he plays the right side the Moose will be pretty well off with their top 3 RWs in Frk, Randell and Lemieux and then be able to give another young rookie time on the 4th line or they could keep a guy like McGuigan who can play a particular physical role.
I like Bernard's potential but i like the move.

Usually when you go from 4th line on one team to 1st line on another your production will go up. Bernard fell out of favour with Halifax and he should do well in a new surrounding. Maybe not 25 goals but you never know. As long as his commitment level is there.
Its one of those situations where it will benefit both teams and the player.

or he could just as easily have an Alexis Piette type of season. Different situations...Piette played steadily on Halifax during his rookie year, maybe not at first but my mid season he was a regular and got a good amount of ice time. Bernard had some injury issues and essentially played 4th line last year. The 2nd half of his 17 year old season he played terrific hockey.

Sometimes power forwards take a while to develop. Look at Slaney and Haddad in Cape Breton. They both has unspectacular 18 year old season before breaknig out at 19. Or for an old school example, look at Jonathan St-Louis who Halifax acquired 99-00.

To me it seems more that he is not playing with any kind of edge or physical game, and his skating doesn't allow him to just be an offensive player. Maybe this will be a wakeup call and he shows up in RN camp in good shape and uses his body more...or he could be on waivers in September.
