Just occurred to me that all three of Montreal's 20s this coming season were rookies on Pascal Vincent's last Eagles team in 07-08. Nic Chouinard, Jeremy Gouchie, and Frank Meilleur.
A fourth 08 rookie, Phil Fontaine, is also on Montreal as a 19 yo.
Vincent has often raved about how that team was his favourite to coach in all his years in Cape Breton, how all he had to do was open the bench door and let them go. He won Coach of the Year with that team.
And now he's basically been able to pluck what's left of it in the Q right from under Mario's nose, and reassemble those guys as veterans in Montreal.
Very interesting food for thought..........

What is truly scary about the 2007-2008 Eagles is how good they would have been if James Sheppard hadn't turned pro that year at 19. I saw a preseason game here in Halifax and he did what he wanted to do that night and the Mooseheads weren't exactly playing rookies that night either.

In hindsight he probably should have been sent back to junior too. It's become quite obvious that starting off in the NHL that season did absolutely nothing for him and it was too soon.

I remember that, I was at that game too - it was at the Forum. The Moose played Voracek, Hillier, and plenty of other veterans that night, and Sheppard was the best player on the ice by a country mile - man amongst boys. Hillier was making the saddest attempts all night to get him off his game, and Sheppard just kept owning him every shift. As for Voracek, believe it or not he got thrown out that night! He along with Phil Fontaine of the Eagles, for being the second fight in the same stoppage. I'm pretty sure that'd be the only fight of Voracek's Q career...... hahaha. Then the next exhi game between the Eagles and Moose, at C200, Sheppard had four goals four assists for an eight point outing.
