According to John Moore's Twitter Account, Bill Short is out and Logan's father, Gerard is his replacement. Also of note, a rumour is former Moosehead coach Shawn MacKenzie as a possible Asst. Coach. twitter.com/rinkrant

I think MacKenzie would be a great addition as an assistant.

Glad to have Gerard Shaw on our side now after several seasons as a bird dog for Lewiston. He's a real passionate guy who I can only imagine adding to the Eagles.
As for the MacKenzie rumour, wow - this is the first I've heard of this. Years ago, in the heat of the CB-Halifax rivalry, I'd never in a million years have wanted MacKenzie behind our bench - simply because of the fierce rivalry.... he was the coach of the enemy, and that was that. In fact I was delighted when a 5-0 Moosehead loss at home to our Eagles was the final nail in MacKenzie's coffin when he was fired midseason in 2004-2005.
Five years later though, a lot has changed. The rivalry between the two teams is completely in the toilet, and it's tempered ill feelings between the two teams. What was once unthinkable, now doesn't sound like such a bad idea.
The fact remains right now that the Eagles are in team in need of getting back their identity as an overachieving, gritty team that will outwork anyone else in the league. That's EXACTLY the kind of way Shawn MacKenzie coaches, that's exactly the kind of teams he produced. Like Pascal Vincent, he was lauded as a head coach for being able to get the most out of average players - but criticized for not always being able to best handle stars. As an assistant coach though, I don't think that negative would be an issue - it's the head coach that manages stars (not that I'm saying Mario is the guy to do that, Luke Adam was allowed to do whatever he wanted last year).
I'd welcome MacKenzie into our fold - maybe he'd help the Eagles get back to basics, and bring a bit of experience and stability behind a bench that's in sore need of it.

I don`t remember that being an issue... handling the stars. He took over in the Mem cup with a team of misfitted stars and got them playing very well, scoring 12 goals in the first 2 games againt the OHL and WHL. He then spent two years over achieving with a team of grinders for the most part, however managed to get/let Jason King to absolutely terrorize the league in goal scoring. In 03, his first chance with star players, he very well could have won the league. IN 04, it was a messy year, but guys like Sparre still produced like stars. Then 05 his time ran out, but I still think after Xmas could have been a different story with injuries not being such an issue. His knock was always that he demanded/expected players to play responsibly and at times he employed a very defensive style with limited talent to win the games... but the talent he managed always produced and you rarely heard of star players unhappy and/or leaving because of him. Tanguay insisted he be at his jersey retirement even though he was never even his head coach. He will also let your team tough guys do whatever the hell they want

He'd fit right in with the Eagles. Trap trap trap, defence defence defence.
Hard to knock it too much, since it's worked well for you guys under Vincent and now Durocher. But god damn is it ever boring to watch. In fact I'm willing to say it's that style of game, and coaching, that has played a part in the demise of the all Nova Scotia rivalry. It's not everything, but IMO over the years it's played a big part. How many exciting games can there be when one team shuts everything down and traps the hell out of the other team for 40mins of a game? It's like play the New Jersey Devils 8 times a year!!
I guess nothing will change soon if MacKenzie lands there.

Face it Mario is here for 2 years. What the Eagles need to do is bring in some new ideas and new blood. When was the last time Mackenzie coached at this level? Bring in an Assistant that is going to develop the team and create that hard working mentality as well as help players get to the next level.

If Shawn comes in he will be the Head Coach in 2 years time when Mario's contract runs out. Saw it coming when they hired Mario and I can see the same thing happening here.

Totally agree and that's the way it should be. Hire an assistant that can then slide into being the head coach. Then the transition from coaches is not that big for the players or the whole organization. Would be nice to have somebody come in and settle in to be a Caper. Mario can't get out of town quick enough at the end of the season and nobody see's him till training camp. Bring an Assistant in that will take over and understand what the Capers want in a team!!
