Not trying to get into a sky is falling debate here, just wondering if we're starting to see signs of some sort of fan revolt here, barely 2000 combined for the 2 pre-season games seems pretty low to me. I know its still summer....as it is every August when camp happens....but I don't think i'm far off in saying that yesterdays game was one of he lowest attended game in Sydney in Eagles history.....and if i'm wrong i'm sure deer will have the game sheet handy from whatever might be lower

Well since you brought it up .........................I talked to lots of people at the Games and they are all singing the same tune about Mario ...............they hate his style . The constant line juggling , the trading of Roy and his arrogance . When you hear lots of "better off when we had Pascal" sprinkled in with a few "how come they didn't bring in Fabian" ? Then you gotta wonder . I think you have to gauge it on the regular season however and not a 25 degree Weekend day during a short Cape Breton Summer .

I thought that the first two pre-season games seemed pretty empty as well.
I'm wondering if the renovations have had a negative impact on that?
Are there actually many people who have had season tickets in the past and are NOT renewing?

Cape Breton will do just fine. I am sure afew pieces of the sky will fall attendance will drop, and by December when you realize the teams is not that bad you will be talking play-offs. Last time the sky was suppose to fall you guys were ranked first in the CHL for a few weeks. Think the same sky falling era that a young Olivier Roy came around and ended up being one of the best if not the best Cape Breton goalie ever. So as much as I hate to say it Cape Breton will be jus fine.

All everyone keeps pointing to when telling us we won't be bad is our past under different people.....I mean why does it work during down years but not big years like last year when we go out in round 1? Personally I think the past is the past for a reason and to compare this team to the 07-08 version just is not fair to this group.

Having said that Verroneau may very well turn out to be a good one but he does not have the Dee in front of him that Roy did . It is good to be positive but when mario;s moves constantly turn your stomach ........it is real easy not to !

Yeah I understand where you guys are coming from with that. Part of me thinks the difference from Halifax rebuild and now Cape Bretons is we basically started with a clean slate with the exception of the old partial owner/assistant coach became the new coach /GM. You guys still have the same coach that you had before the mess. I guess by Christmas we will know with Cape Breton what kinda team they will truly have. I could be right and the skys not falling and... guys like Jacques and Deer will be apologizing as Mario has the organization better off than expected. Or its going to be full blown "LORD OF THE FLIES" and Mario better get his butt off the Island quick. Time will tell. The last few years have really killed the Halifax Cape Breton rivalry. One teams trys to contend while almost feeling bad for the condition of the rebuilding team.

Lack of True heavyweights and Shit Disturbers is what has killed the rivalry................you can deny it all you want but when Ettinger vs Lewis or LaHache vs Greenough or George Davis vs anybody was the talk , the Arena was buzzing . When Morency was around and Sutherland was yapping , the crowd was into it . the brief stint that Marchand had with the Moose is the only other time since then that the rivalry was relevant !

For comparisons sake, your first 2 ex games from 2009 combined for around 2800.

The Q has been shifting away from size, physicality and intimidation for years... The need for the enforcer is dropping like a stone. It's part of the reason for the lack of success when it comes to Mem cup performance I think. The other leagues play a more physical and intimidating game the the Q league does...

I too noticed the smaller than usual crowds. It could be due to some factors mentioned in this thread- the rennovations and the hotter than normal weather (especially since both games were in the afternoon), and I'm sure the Johnny Carabin funeral may have taken fans away from the PEI game (he was a popular guy who was very much involved in the local hockey scene.)
That being said, I don't think those factors account for all the drop in attendance... I'm sure some of it may be some fans with less interest than in previous years. I think that of all the East division teams, Cape Breton's message board's opinions probably are most mirror that of the average fan. CB fans really grew to know the Q during the years of consistent hockey we've seen, and I'm sure many who don't post/know about the forums see things the same way people here do.
I wonder if Roy is a factor as well. This year marks the first time since the start of the 02-03 season (to my memory) that we've traded one of our established stars. Which is funny considering Mario said he was worried about the fans reaction to trading Adam mid-season...
Also of interest to some (well, to me ;D)... not saying I'm the be-all authority on the Eagles, but while everyone was picking the 07-08 Eagles to finish last, I had them pegged for 4th, and that's where they finished. I think this year's team will be a bit better than expected.... but I'm still expecting them to be bad.

Again:
Are there people who are really not going to renew their tickets this year? I remember reading this before and just wondering if it was all just talk.
Maybe its because I'm relatively new. Maybe its because I haven't been around through all the tough times. Maybe its because I try to see the positives in everything.
I just think its a horrible idea. This is how a franchise can become bankrupt/move.

I guarantee you people didn't renew when they were given no explanation for last years debacle. And your last comment is funny....because it's the exact thing some of us were saying when the moves were made last year...take peoples support for granted and it won't be long until you're wondering where they went.

Man, I agree with you that supporting a team like this is tough to do, but, the simple conclusion I draw is that I'd rather have this than no hockey. Wouldn't you?

Sure, but unless you're like 14...where were you for the last dozen years while hockey was still being played Personally i'm not wasting my money to be a STH.
