Have to agree that it was a very good start to the season for the Eagles while at the same time I would think it has to be a somewhat disappointing start for Halifax fans who have read about all the optimism in Mooseland and all the doom and gloom in Cape Breton, since last season.
Tonight's game may very well put a different perspective on things all over again but we have to remember that it's just the beginning of the season. Some teams really seem to mature and develop over the course of the season, especially in terms of the younger players and others seem to keep repeating the same bad habits. Hopefully, the Eagles this year will fall into the former group!
Will Lacerte get the start again tonight or will Veronneau get his first real test?

Hard not to love those Carrier boys.
This teams success hinges on the 2nd line imo......last night Cuzner comes up with a big goal and it stands up as the winner.
Good to see Lacerte have a solid game too, he's been a solid veteran presence back there so far.

Losing their Home Opener has gotta sting a bit , only in front of 6500 fans ? , isn't that a small crowd for a Moosehead Home Opener ? Nice start to the Season for The Eagles .

I didn't leave the rink disappointed to be honest. Yes I would like to see the boys get the win but it is a long season and for the first time in a few years there is light at the end of the tunnel. 6800 fans on a nice night in early September isn't that bad of a crowd. I thought there would have been a few more but we are not the 7500 fan average we used to be. Can't really add anything more than others have posted, chippy, sloppy game but that is to be expected this time of year.
Hopefully both teams play well this year, as well as expected, and the rivalry comes back a bit.

I mean for sure it's always a better feeling when you win, but they played hard and had the chances to tie and win the game, but it didn't happen. Plus being the first game of the year, I'd say most were happy with the performance. There is no doubt optimism here in Halifax for the season, but the reality of it is that this team is still very young. The optimism is more driven by what's to come in the years ahead....not so much what we are right now.

Yeah without looking it up, I think Cam has said we have like 6 18 year olds, and 9 16-17 year olds right now. Alot of talent 18 and under. This core of 16-18 that we will see this year could realistically be mostly intact for 2 more seasons after this (obviously a few will have to go, but more youth will take their place with a good amount of picks still). Ashley-Frk-Andrews-Souligny-Ciampini to name the main core up front will see lots of quality ice in all situations and still be together next year, and the year after. But even at 16-17 they will be enjoyable to watch...

Speaking Of Lacerte........ Can anyone remember the last eagle to start the year or even play in our net via trade?
Roy- drafted Vern- drafted Holden- drafted Benda- drafted Pav's drafted Davenport- F/A Houle- drafted Proteau- drafted?? Fluer-drafted Boisclair- drafted? Awalt-drafted Gouthro- F/A
* All these guys either were signed our picked up via free agency
The only guy that comes to mind is Marc-Andre Perron anyone remember him??
He played with the MAINiacs for 1 game befor coming her for just one game in 05/06 other than that our goaltending dates back to the 99/00 season when Dallaire & St. Germain came her via trade and played more than 5 games...... How about that....

Wasn't Lacerte wearing another team's mask as well? I thought he was wearing a mask with Titan colours, but didn't see a Titan logo on it. (Not to say there wasn't... of course he hasn't been an Eagle as long as Delmas has been a Moose.

How about that.... I thought Perron was drafted by CB too, but hockeydb seems to prove you correct. That was my first thought when Lacerte was traded here too, it's the first time in a while we've used a goalie acquired in a trade. Boisclair was drafted too.

The Mooseheads sure did a great job of messing up their organization during that run in 2008. ;D

How about that.... There were two Marc-Andre Perrons, oddly enough - and both goalies. The guy who played one game for the MAINEiacs isn't the same guy who played a game or two for us. The MA Perron who stood in our crease a couple of times was indeed an Eagles draft pick. The last goalie I can remember us having that came via trade was Dany Dallaire in 99-00. Got him from Drummondville. He didn't start the season with us though. Last goalie to start the season with us who had come via trade would have been Dave St-Germain in 99-00. But we traded for him at Xmas in the 98-99 season. So I think that makes Lacerte the first Eagle goalie ever to start the season fresh off of the trade route. Didn't realize that - interesting!!

So we have to have hope that we are on the right track. Judging from the crowd that was at the game tonight a lot of selling of that has to be done.

And with the target being playoff home ice advantage this year can hardly be called a rebuild.

I hear Halifax fans still tremble at the mention of the name Claude Giroux.
