Gotta open by saying that I am not really interested in this one as much as other Opening Nights but hopefully that will ease when the atmosphere picks up just before puck drop . The push for the Memorial Cup picks up speed tonight with the Organizing Committee planning something for the fans . Peeeye have been struggling offensively so far in the early stages of the Season and could be the perfect opponent for the young Eagles squad . All feelings for Mario and his Managing Blunders aside I still want to see the kids get solid support at the gate and hopefully the other things will take care of themselves . For the record Eagles 5-3 with an Empty netter .

I feel like the Eagles are going to have a fairly decent team at home this year. Probably a bit over .500.
I'm going with 4-2 for the Eagles.

You can pretty much bank on Veronneau starting this one and if a decent game , will more than 98% get the Nod tomorrow as well

Look at how high hal has set the over/under! ;D I too think we'll see a good crowd tonight for several reasons. 1) People are curious about the renovations 2) The team has promoted plans to unveil some details on their 2012 Memorial Cup bid at tonight's game 3) The fact we're starting on Sep 24. I think that's a help, the home opener often falls on the second weekend of September and that's too early. Sometimes it's still 25 C outside and people just aren't interested in going to the rink. Today there's a nice cool fall nip in the air, some time has passed for fans to have more of a chance to get excited.... I like the late start.
Bad news is that Stephen Horyl won't be playing this weekend, and rumours are going around that he might not be playing for a while. All I've heard is that it's injury-related, probably a continuation of the problems he had last year. Hopefully it's just for this weekend or just for the short term, we'll have to stay tuned I guess. Without him we lose a big chunk of our offence.
I like Verroneau and I know he needs to play, but I think you give the home opener to Lacerte after the way he's played so far.
PEI is typically off to a bad start, 1-4 including a couple awful losses at home. But now they have their full lineup... guys like Andrej Nestrasil and Philippe Paradis back. Still, it's a team whose confidence is reeling.... could make for a favourable opening weekend opponent for the Eagles.
Win or lose, I hope these games have some intensity. Over the years, PEI visits to C200 have been terrible for turning into totally blah games that everyone forgets as soon as they leave the rink. I was a little concerned when I saw we had them for the home opening weekend, thought there couldn't be a less interesting opponent to open against. Hopefully this weekend will be different with a gritty young Eagles team looking to impress the home crowd for the first time.... and a Rocket team with something to prove now that it has its full lineup, looking to bounce back from a 1-4 start.
Looking forward to what should be a fun night at the rink!

Not good about Horyl, at all, but, I expected it.
What would our options be long term? I don't think its wise to waste a 20 spot on a player who's going to play half the year.

I had heard this about Horyl also .Yesterday but I chose not to post it because I considered the source to be luke warm at best . Since it is out there , I will add that they in fact are looking at some stop gap solutions at the 20 year old spots . Stay tuned ! Too Bad really because Horyl is a Class Act .

I agree, Correct me if im wrong we can pick someone up and ride 4 20's until Christmas can we not? But in all reality is it worth paying anywhere from a 6th to later pick for a player were only gonna utilize till Christmas if that? How about Bourg? I think he would be able to fill the void, as I believe he is still property
