As an out of towner, I notice that Shaw takes a lot of heat on this board.
Why?
because he's local? or Local kid drafted earlier then he should have? or he's just not that good?
...or??

Option B.
Hes a good player...he would make any of the league's 18 teams...but he was an overdraft, and as a local that added undo pressure.
If Ellis was picked in the 1st round and Shaw in the 3rd, which is the way it should have happened, than no one would be riding Shaw.

I think fans are disappointed by Logan's overall lack of progress so far. As a 1st round pick he was given opportunities the last 2 years that other players didn't get but he really didn't take advantage of them. The local fans are very supportive of local players who are willing to give their best effort and are willing to work hard on a consistent basis. Just look at their reaction to Brad Cuzner last year!
Lala, what was your reaction to the Hockey News having Logan Shaw as the 5th ranked player in the Q for the upcoming NHL draft?
Sean Couturier is in the running for #1 overall and the Sea Dogs have another 4 or 5 top ranked players alone so I just don't see it myself based on what I've seen in 2 plus years. Have you got a top 10 of your own?

Lala, I buy and look at the Hockey News very very seldom also but have you got your own ideas about the top 10 Q prospects for the upcoming NHL draft, based on what you've seen of these players so far.

Sorry Lala I ment that him being given a harder/longer look from the pro scounts and being ranked.... Might.... Might have something to do with his old man being a scout

I doubt Shaw gets picked at this point...hes a late 18 year old....usually those guys have to be top end guys to be drafted...but the season is long, its only September.

Might have something to do with his old man being a scout I think it's more like since his dad is a scout he could of easily had input into that list for THN. Otherwise it's puzzling why they'd have a player who has progressed very little since his rookie season as a top draft eligible.....when exactly was this list published anyway?

I feel bad for any local kid who shows up here with hype because if they're immediately don't show it they're unfairly labeled by 98% of our crowd. It's no coincidence that pretty much all the locals who have done well here have some so as later round picks.

It's not just here, it's kind of human nature.... look at Halifax and PJ Lynch, they pretty much booed him out of town. It's just a tough situation to be overhyped in your hometown, especially a smaller place like here. You're right that most of the local guys who succeeded came here with pretty moderate fanfare.... either as mid-round draft picks or through non-blockbuster trades. Chris Culligan was a 5th round pick....... Stuart MacRae was drafted by Quebec in the 4th or 5th round and came kind of quietly in that big trade with the Remparts that got us Cote and Martineau and netted them Lyness and Lefebvre...... Steve Horyl came here almost as a throw-in in that Ward-for-Finn deal.......... Brad Cuzner was a 4th or 5th round pick.... The Jared Vokey situation should make our team forever cautious about drafting a local kid in the 1st round unless he's a slam-dunk talent.

Oh for sure it's not just here, but as you say it's the small town feel that seems to intensify the situation a little. Nick MacNeil and George Davis are 2 others even though in very different roles.....hopefully we can look back on a MacIntosh and add him to the list one day.

I am not so sure people still wouldn't be giving Shaw a hard time if he went in the third. I agree 100% with the overdraft but to be honest LaLa he doesn't know how to throw a check, he can't stop on a time and takes the long way trying to get in the play. He has a nice relase and decent shot at times but in my opinion and many others he has shit the bed for 3 years now. If we didn't give up a second for stinziani that year we might have taken him in the second round but when the scouts rank him 36-40 and you take him 11th and his skating was noted as an issue that tells me Mario and his scouts made the wrong pick.
