Why is it a ridiculous argument? How did you come upon that exact figure of 9 to 12 years? Your preference for what a Memorial Cup host should be seems to be directly in line with what would allow Halifax to host the most. What a coincidence. ;D You find it silly that Quebec would host the Memorial Cup every year... but I find it silly that you could have a perfectly capable team that's never hosted before and would choose to put it somewhere else. If it's about the money, put it in Quebec every year. If it's about the good of the league, spread it around. Seems simple to me. Okay so should Halifax have to wait until Baie Comeau has hosted before we get the green light to host again? Of course not, they're not suitable because of their rink size. But you should have to wait until those with suitable rinks do host.

Really, how many Q teams even have a suitable rink size to host the Mem cup? 8 or 9 maybe.

Okay so why have a bidding process then?? Why not just have a list of viable teams and just go thru a rotation and then start over then??

Well the teams that haven't hosted before still have to compete for the right to do so.
That's why I was implying it's somewhat arrogant for Halifax to try to host considering there are so many teams that have either never hosted or have not hosted as recently as Halifax.
If CB was the ONLY team that "fit the criteria" that hadn't hosted before, then I'd hope Halifax (or some other previous host) would bid. And while I'd hope the bidding committee would give STRONG preference to CB, there would have to be another bid in there just so that CB couldn't just throw together some half-assed crap bid that would put on the worst Memorial Cup ever and still be awarded the tournament.
In terms of who else could host, the list above is a pretty good indication... how big is Shawnigan's rink? I wonder if the Rocket ever became a more stable organisation, could they host the Memorial Cup in Summerside? Even though they don't have a team at the moment I definitely think you'll see St. John's host the Memorial Cup in the next 20 years.
As for CB putting forth a competitive team, I think it could be done but at as I said before, it would pretty much ransack any chance of being competitive for a few years after. Which is why it's a bad idea.

Brec7, I agree that it could have been done well last Christmas if the Eagles had sold their assets to the highest bidders. Those assets obviously included Olivier Roy and Luke Adam. However, I'm sure there were serious contenders interested in rounding out their Defense that would have also paid a fair price for Brodeur and Meilleur.
It could have been done even better a year ago in June when we might have gotten interest in players like Micheal Ward, Nick MacNeil and Nick Chouinard and started acquiring draft picks and young players back then since the organization was already talking about a Memorial Cup bid.
Now, I honestly think it's too late because, "Excuse me but the building blocks just aren't there!" Compare the young 16, 17 and 18 year olds on the Sea Dogs to the players of the same age on the Eagles. It is no contest unfortunately!

I don't see how we can ice even a half decent team in 2012.
The only way I can see us getting back to even ground is by trading away EVER asset that we have. Hertzberg needs to be dealt this Xmas. MacDougall needs to be dealt this Xmas. Ellis needs to be kept until next Xmas and dealt. Woodworth needs to be dealt. Shaw needs to be dealt.
This is the only way I can see us avoiding a 5-6 year rebuild. And even that is a stretch.
