Doesn't the CGEP Rule insure Veroneau must stay ?

I love this comment on their board.... "a couple of teams, going to challenge for league title, never a bad idea to pick up a goalie with mem cup experience, especially if it don't cost you anything "
he'd be useful in 2012 (not to say he won't be now), but I wonder what that poster would think if he knew his goalie was going to a last place team......

Hayes is in town now and apparently Horyl is no longer with the team.

Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious here, but why would Horyl play in Truro but not in CB? Would that mean his absence from the Eagles lineup isn't injury-related? Maybe he wants a lighter schedule with less pressure for personal reasons?
No clue what's going on here, only thing I'm sure of is I (and I'm sure everyone else who follows the team) wish Stephen Horyl all the best wherever he is and whatever he's doing.

As for the Hayes thing, if it's true it's about the last move I saw coming. The last place we seem to need help is in goal. And if it's possible for a 4-10-1 team to have an MVP with the season not even past the 1/4 pole, Francois Lacerte has been it.

I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm thoroughly confused with this move.
There are positives here though. Many were worried that when Pascal left that the Eagles would stop getting FA's... regardless of whether this guy fills a specific need, the fact is Mario seems to have landed a decent free agent. I like the fact that the team is adding another asset.
However, for a rebuilding team trying to improve, I can't see this really helping the Eagles this season. You can only play one goalie at a time- we've been playing Lacerte most starts, and he's been excellent. I can't think of many nights this season where I'd left the rink thinking we'd have got the win with better goaltending, and there's certainly been some games the Eagles would have lost with inferior goaltending.
As well, I'm sure Lacerte has developed a lot of confidence with his play this season. Goaltending is a very mental position and I hope this doesn't disrupt that part of his game. He can't be traded for the time being so I'm guessing Verroneau is on his way back to midget.
If Mario is doing this with the hopes of Hayes impressing and getting a return in a trade, hopefully that works. If it's with the intention of trading Lacerte, it's a bit of a strange move- you'd be giving the ball to Verroneau for sure for next season but at the same time sending him back to midget for now.
As for how this affects the current 20 year old situation, I don't think it really does. I'd be shocked if Horyl ever plays another game here- the rumours have been going around about every type of injury/personal situation since the beginning of the season (I should clarify that none of those reflect badly on him). Him going back to Truro would be a bit puzzling, though, seeing as the supposed reason for him reporting to CB and not Lewiston would be to play at home, and now he'd be moving away from home. Strange... but best of luck to him in whatever he chooses to do.
Given the uncertainty around Horyl (after his concussion issue last season I wasn't necessarily optimistic of him playing many games this year), I think I can safely say that this year's Eagles likely had the worst group of 20's to start the season in franchise history.
Horyl is a bonafide 1st or 2nd line player and a good 20 on a strong team- when he's healthy.
MacDougall is coming off his best game of the year, but unfortunately we haven't seen any other games like that from this season. I don't think he's necessarily a bad 20 year old to have on a rebuilding team, but he certainly doesn't fit on a contender in that role, IMO.
And I don't think Metcalfe should be a 20 on any team in the Q. The guy gives a good effort, I like how he sticks up for his teammates, and he makes a fine 3rd pairing dman- if he was 19. But putting him in a key leadership role he gets exposed logging a lot of minutes and takes a lot of penalties.
The best case for the Eagles would be Brodeur returning. He was "loaned" to Phoenix's ECHL team today so perhaps a return to CB is not out of the question at all.
The situation with Hayes is a bit confusing but here's hoping it works out for the best.

What would Horyl cost?

"Durocher couldn't be immediately reached for comment"
No, because he's trying to come up with a reason as to why this makes sense. Really, though, it seems this goalie is top notch and could potentially allow for a decent return in a trade. But as people have brought up, we're the lowest scoring team in the league. Even if we had a GAA of 1.00, if we can't score, we can't win.

It's official - Hayes has joined the team.
And as we all knew/feared/suspected, Stephen Horyl's time with the Screaming Eagles is over. News release says he told the team he's no longer interested in playing major junior hockey.
Again, wishing him all the best in whatever he does.

News release says he told the team he's no longer interested in playing major junior hockey. Again, wishing him all the best in whatever he does. Heartbroken. I loved Horyl from the first shift. Played with the heart of a Lion. Best of luck to him for all of his future endeavors. So, now, wtf do we do with Lacerte or Veronneau? Lacerte has been playing FANTASTIC as many have mentioned. I, like Pat mentioned, have not left the rink once thinking "wow, stronger goaltending could have been the difference". Its always been, "wish we had some players who can put the puck in the net". I assume someone is being traded and I can't see that someone being Veronneau. I'd say Lacerte is traded. Veronneau assumes the #1, with Hayes being the veteran backup (as we all expected was to be the case with the Veronneau/Lacerte tandum this season).
