Marios Logic in it from the Hearld article is that he knows his team only scores 1-2 goals a game and thats why Hayes was brought in to keep it tight,

I don't get this move for 1 obvious reason. This season is supposed to be all about rebuilding and giving the young "experienced" building blocks ice time and roles to develop into Memorial Cup caliber players.
Because of our 19 year old situation, Lacerte, who has played very well so far, could play his way this season into a 20 year old position next year and Verroneau was supposed to be the goalie of the future. He deserves the chance to play a significant number of games to honestly evaluate him. Both their roles will be diminished by this move with one possibly being terminated. This move seems like an attempt to steal some games to make the playoffs and to approach respectability. However, this year there may be no connection between making the playoffs and true respectability.
Despite a lack of top end talent, this team has been competing hard most nights while missing top players from their lineup. Taylor had an impact right away when he returned and MacIntosh's return and a solid 20 year old forward with some scoring ability who could play 1st line on the Eagles, if Mario went that way instead, might have been enough to give this team a real boost with several forwards moving back to roles that they can better handle. I find it hard to believe that there isn't a 20 year old forward ( possibly even a free agent like Hayes ) out there somewhere that could help this team and I certainly don't mean a "top scorer" like we acquired last year but rather a hard working "character" player who would probably achieve career highs playing on the Eagles 1st line and 1st unit power play.
How can this team possibly address the offense at Christmas without destroying the future in terms of draft picks and young players even more?

He did that already when he brought in Legault and Legacy last year . Who knows what this Loon is capable of this time around ............stay tuned !

Guys you may be right but certainly even more damage could be done!
I believe we still have a few draft picks left in the next couple of years although they may not be 1st or 2nd round picks. I lost interest in keeping track when I guess "The prices weren't too high last year!"
We all remember the year before when the prices to get any help for Culli, Slaney and company must have been astronomical! Mario said they had to go for it last year because of Luke Adam. That's logic for you!

That's logic for you! Yes, eventually we will get some picks but everyone can say that, it's rare to see picks traded too far down the road. But that would mean those kids aren't peaking until the spring of 2015 or 2016. What more damage could be done then that when you add in the possibilities of losing a top 3 picks and a Mem Cup bid while C200 sits empty during a QMJHL playoffs for the first time since the Eagles came to town? Hopefully the goaltending move will trigger some success and keep a lot of that from happening.

Jack, again I have to agree that the amount of damage that was done is probably unmeasurable in terms of the damage that was done to the reputation and tradition of this franchise let alone the loss of top draft picks for the next fee years. But unfortunately the way things have been going things could get even worse if we buy again to try to not only make the playoffs but to move up in the standings somehow. Someone who can hear the clock ticking on his employment isn't going to be concerned about the future of the franchise like many posters have been on this board for the last 11 months or longer!
If I'm not mistaken, I mentioned the possibility of the Eagles losing the 1st overall pick in this year's draft, at the time of the Christmas shopping spree. I think some posters at that time, suggested that the Eagles would be too strong for that to happen. It is still a possibility!
Who exactly did we get for this year's 1st round pick? Was that part of the Gelinas for a few hours deal or part of our 1 goal scorer deal?

I can see Hayes coming in, stealing a few games, vets like MacIntosh come back and start chipping in some offense. Hertz/MacDougall get rolling and we end up in a playoff spot (which really isn't THAT difficult to do in a league where only 2 teams don't make the playoffs). So, at Xmas time, we're in a playoff position and Mario is thinking..."Well, we have a solid group of core players, with a fantastic veteran goaltender with Memorial Cup experience and a large group of young kids who have really progressed so far this season. With the addition of a top 6 forward and a puck moving defenceman, I believe we have a contender."
