My math isn't what it used to be but in a 68 game season I believe 17 games is the 1/4 mark, so I thought it'd be interesting to start a discussion on where we are at this point.
Record: 5-11-0-1 (Tied 5th in Maritime Division and 16th overall... Last playoff spot) lhjmq.leaguestat.com/en/stats/statdisplay.php?type=standings&season_id=82
Top Point producer: Marty Frk (17GP 6G 11A 17Pts)

Some of my observations:
MVP so far: No one has really stood out to me as the MVP, but if picked now it would be Marty Frk. A Point per game average is a good accomplishment for a guy who's just getting to know the league, and his teammates. I expect him to get better as the season progresses. I'd like to see him get a bit more selfish and shoot the puck more. Does get frustrating at times to see him dangle 2-3 people only to flip a pass and have it be intercepted. But he's gonna be some fun to watch for the next 2 years.
Pleasant Surprises: Carl Gelinas. He doesn't look out of place at all on the first line and he's pumping in the points to show it. He works hard in the corners and is showing he has finish. Could be another one that's fun to watch next year and possibly the year after.
Simon Desmarais. At 16 he's showing great poise in his own end and is being rewarded with some key ice time. His willingness to drop the gloves at 16 against older and bigger opponents will make him a fan favorite for sure. I see him as a future captain of this team.
Needs to improve: Mathieu Corbeil. Hate to keep harping on the guy but he has shown signs of greatness. I believe his problems are in the head. He needs to show more confidence. I see him way back in his crease at times and dropping routine glove saves. In order for the Moose to be competitive, he needs to stop pucks.
Gerrard Grant. Our best 20yo on paper is currently tied for 8th in team scoring. We need more offense from Mr. Grant. There's too many young guys fighting for his ice time, and being a 20 yo scorer comes with some responsibility to produce. I have confidence he'll come around.
Unsung Hero: Gabe Desjardins. It's like Gabe's been let loose this year. His work ethic game in and game out has been a bright spot so far. He only has 3 goals in 14 games, but to me he's one of the funnest guys to watch, and can get me back into the game when I want to fall asleep in my chair.
Team summary: All in all the start to the year is disappointing in the win/loss department. However, anyone that's watched the Moose can tell you that they've been in almost every game they've played. The Game in Rimouski, and the home games against Moncton and Cape Breton # 2 being the exceptions. I think it comes down to goaltending. If our goalies can keep us in the game, we'll have a chance to win. It must be disheartening to work so hard only to have a couple of soft goals go in, and bam your down 2. If we can get more consistent goaltending and as we develop more chemistry, I can see us with some more wins. Our schedule gets a little easier coming up. We have more road games, but the caliber of opponent will ease up a bit.
Prediction on record for next 17 games: 7-9-0-1.
Average attendance through 10 home games: 5178 (2nd in the league and 10th in the Country. Difference from the same point last year: -57.4 fans/game or down 1.1%.

Attendance hasn't been great, but it didn't go down as much as I thought it would. Nothing under 4000 yet which is a plus (We'll see what happens Wednesday night against Gatineau).
Keep working hard Moose, and you'll see the crowds start to come back. This is where it starts to get fun. Breaking down the season one chunk at a time and hopefully, seeing improvement in each chunk. Don't lose faith folks, there's better days ahead.
Go Moose!
