Just finished up with the Ice Jam.
Cole Stewart looks really good with the Flyers, and I didn't mind him during the call up either.
The other guy whos progress I've been very happy with this season is Callum MacPherson of the Cape Breton West Islanders, he may be a darkhorse to crack the team, big body, strong, good skater with a scoring touch that's really coming to the forefront this season. 21 goals and 40 points thus far just in regular season play. Again he's a 3rd year so take it with a grain of salt, but he's certainly better than I expected him to be.

What's Cole Stewart's ceiling? Above avg 3rd liner? I hate to put a ceiling on a guy like Stewart, he's a guy with some offensive skills but I'm not sure they'll translate to major Jr yet. I think his ceiling for us at 17 is a 4th liner, but, at 18 and 19 he could be a top 6 guy if he develops the right way.

Speaking of Stewart.... I see Scott tweeted the following:
"Scott MacIntosh @scottmacintosh4 15m15 minutes ago More Halifax Mooseheads prospect Cole Stewart had 9 points ( 4G 5A ) in Moncton's 4-game sweep of Fredericton in round 1 of the NB Midget AAA playoffs. Stewart was a 3rd round pick of the Mooseheads last June."
9 points in 4 games sounds good, anyone with eyes on him think he can step into our lineup next season?

It has everything to do with the Mooseheads' forward depth, and how many forwards from this team return to the team next season. Tough to tell at this point.

For context - Moncton kicked the crap out of Fredericton ... Stewart's 9 points in 4 games were 4th on his team in scoring ... not to say he wasn't the best player, I have no idea ... just wouldn't put a lot of faith in the stats from that round ... 2018 draft eligible prospects Cole Cormier, Lukas Cormier, and Patrick LeBlanc had 12, 11 and 10 points respectively in the series.

That's good info , it puts his stats into perspective .

Yup ... it was like a 1 vs 16 Q 1st round playoff matchup. Moncton outscored Fredericton 27-8 in 4 games. Cole Cormier had two 4 goal games ... not a guy that really lit it up all year ... 13 goals on the season. Could be a late breakout kid. He is 2002 born so first time Q draft eligible in June ... 5'9" 157 as a 15 YO. But it will be interesting to see what he does when the opponents get tougher. That Moncton Flyers team is a very strong Midget team ... they should be at the Atlantics with Kensington representing PEI also ... although Saint John is no slouch.

Stewart also spent more than half the year in Jr with 17 games in Jr A (Miramichi) and 6 with the Moose.

Moncton is a much more skilled, fast, and experienced team than Freddy.
I like Cole Cormier a lot, he's a guy who really turned it on at the ice jam, and although he had 13 goals all year, you have to keep in mind that it takes 15 year olds a while to adjust from the Bantam game. It's a big jump to Major midget, and a lot of guys don't really figure it out until January... Cormier was one of those guys.
As for Stewart, size wise I think he can play Major Jr, but I don't think he's on the Mooseheads next year, not when they're pushing for a memorial cup.

So there need to be a follow up question to your statement. Why do you think he’s not on the team next year? Skill wise, age and even size he is a player that is fit to play in this league. Now in saying that do I see him as a top six guy next year? No. He is a guy who will be a 4th liner maybe even on occasion the 13th Guy. He can also be a guy who if a player goes down could slide into the 3rd line and contribute. Now when he’s an 18yo and 19yo those are the years that he will be a top 9 and eventually 6 guy. In saying all that again I ask why do you think he won’t be a part of this team? I’m guessing you think he will or is trade bait. Correct?

In most years he's a guy who can play at 17 as a 12th-13th forward. However in a contending year I don't see him as a guy who will see much time. That said I could be wrong, and I may change my tune after watching him again at the Atlantics at the end of the month. Maybe they do leave a spot open on the team for him and give him until Christmas to earn his keep. I don't see him as being "trade bait" however. He's unproven at this level and hasn't been dominant in midget, I think selling low on him would be pretty bad.

Saint John just dispatched "Northern" (Bathurst) last night in 4 games ... outscored them 20-6 in 4 games. So the final NB series will be a little more of a battle for both teams.
