Critchlow was suspended by the CIS 5 games for this hit:
Unfortunately I think it's justified. Looks like he actually jumped, and his shoulder/forearm made direct contact with O'Keefe's head. It's unfortunate that he has to miss the whole University Cup, but I don't think there's much doubt on this one.
Edit: Not sure about the leaving his feet part now that I've watched it 8 times. He launches into the hit for sure, but he might not have left his feet until after contact was made. I still think the head was the "principal point of contact".
If he didn't leave his feet, 5 games is harsh. Especially given the importance of the games he'll miss. Has he been suspended before in the AUS?

5 games for that hit seems excessive ... especially in a short season league like the AUS. It is a hit to the head ... but I have seen hits like that called as 2:00 minors in the Q.
There is a certain argument to be made as well where it is university hockey and these players are students first ... and so any type of dangerous hit that jeopardizes their ability to function as a student (concussion) should be penalized heavily. I have no idea if the player was injured. Does the CIS have a tougher standard for hits like this ?
I don't think he left his feet ... just moving upward with his legs. He didn't come flying in on the guy ... definitely not charging (he coasted) ... he was right in front of the guy so it wasn't blindsided. IMO it probably justifies 5:00 and a GM, plus maybe a one game suspension.

I think he was also suspended in the semi-finals.

I think he was also suspended in the semi-finals. Eww that would probably do it. And as Steve mentioned: There's probably a stricter policy on headshots in the CIS.

Wow. Really? 5 games for that? That isn't even 5 minute major material imo. I was expecting a pretty violent hit but that seemed to happen at a pretty slow speed.

I think he was also suspended in the semi-finals. For a hit to the head ? That might explain the 5 games if he is a repeat offender just coming off a suspension. Edit: Found this on a UNB fan site ... "When determining the length of the suspension the AUS undoubtedly took into consideration the fact that Critchlow is a repeat offender, as he was also suspended for game 3 of the UPEI series after receiving a game misconduct for a hit to the head in game 2." www.unbhockeyfans.com/2013/03/critchlow-suspended-five-games.html

He definitely left his feet. No doubt about it in my eyes. There is really no need for those hits. He was aiming to hurt there in my opinion. And I'm a huge Critch fan.

I'm a huge Critchlow fan as well. Man we could use him this year... but he seems to be developping a habit of getting suspended for big games. Hit was definatly high but it wasn't a hard hit. Repeat offender and stricter rules 5 games makes sense i guess though
