I have to agree with Jack Bauer.....24 of Cape Breton's 31 wins have come against teams that are lower than them in the standings, and Sherbrooke beat them twice. Of those 24 wins, 19 have come against 4 teams......Bathurst (7), Saint John (5), Charlottetown (5), and Shawinigan (2). Not taking anything away from the Eagles, but their record does look inflated somewhat from playing in a weak(er) division. Be that it may, the Eagles did manage to go 1-1 vs BC, 2-0 vs BB, 3-5 vs Hal, 0-2 vs Rim, 0-2 vs VDO, 2-0 vs Que, 1-1 vs Gat, 1-1 vs Dru and 0-2 vs Rou. Agreed that their division is not as strong, but on any given night they have shown they can win. It may have taken a hot goalie on our side, a not so hot goalie on their side, and a few lucky bounces but in the end it was 2 points and a victory. I said from the start I would be happy with 500 hockey and they've pleasantly surprised me, but I do not see them getting passed the first round. Nor do I see them getting steam rolled. Should the first round opponent be looking past the Eagles, it could get interesting!

The overall weakness of the division they play in makes me believe the Eagles record is inflated a bit which makes them appear better then they are. But in this league right now with 6 or 7 teams clearly above the rest I don't think that will translate well into the playoffs. I think their chances at an upset all ride on the team they're playing. If it's Quebec(or any team higher then them right now) then I agree that 1 win is a success so I essentially agree with the random fan blog that started this thread in the first place. I don't see 6 or 7 teams "clearly" above the rest I agree......Victoriaville is sitting in 11th overall right now, and they could beat anyone. Head to head this year Cape Breton has beat Quebec both games, outscoring them 9-5(3-2 and 6-3)....it wouldn't surprise me at all to see CB make a series out of this.

If you go by the standing as they stand right now after getting into 10th place last night, we would play Drummundville. No way of telling who will be our first round opponent at this point. There are only two points seperating four teams between 5 - 8th place. The Eagles are three points out of ninth and have two teams chasing them, 1 point and five points behind. Moncton, the team that is five points behind we play twice so they will be very important games.
Frankly, I see us as not being the favorite but can make it a series against any of the likely teams we will play, especially if our goaltending is good. I certainly don't see blowouts in the future like there has been the last few playoff years. We probably have to catch some luck/ injuries to our oppostion/ opposition implosion to get a series win but it is entirely possible (not likely) that we get a first round series win.

It wasn't made by a Quebec Remparts fan though. Quebec only has 1 win this season against two of its possible opponents. 1-5 against Victo and 0-2 against CB. Not a good sign... especially since Erne could miss the entire first round and Duclair hasn't started training yet after suffering a concussion.

Since 2007, only Rimouski over Gatineau, Victo over Bathurst in 2011, Baie Comeau over Victo in 2012, Victo over Moncton, and Gatineau over Rimouski in 2013 are the upsets in the 1st round, where the spread of points for the two teams has been greater than 10 points. I would call that rare. The chances of getting swept in that scenario are over three times greater than pulling off the upset. Late coming back to this thread ... but wanted to comment on this post. An upset occurred in each of the last 3 years in round 1 ... so that is not a rare occurence. It is almost expected to have at least one upset.

Pretty sure he said where spread of points was more than 10. Those upsets rarely happen

We have upsets in round one more often than not under the current playoff format and divisional schedules. One reason is because a team that plays in a weak division is artificially high in the standings ... and vice versa.

Looking at 2013, they started the same week. So if that remains the same, the eagles will play friday and saturday in Gatineau, return home for Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (if necessary).

I guess the the posters on the Quebec board may have known what they were talking about when it comes to the Eagles in the play-offs.
