Solid win even while missing some key guys. We may lack depth and it might hurt us in the next round if we aren't healthy, but our top guys are second to none and capable of winning games big on their own. Now we wait... it will be Gatineau or RN we know that, depending on how the other series' pan out. edit: Forgot about the DR/Victo series, which means we might get Victo too if Moncton came back to win as well. Has RN beaten Quebec yet? I think they are only leading 3-1 in games. A comeback is possible, although unlikely. Looking like Gatineau 2nd round if the current leading teams finish off their opponents. Oddly, I'd rather Gatineau than Rouyn, who #1 seed BC would have to face... that will not be an easy matchup for them at all.

My perception of the Sprong goal was that the Moose were rewarding the Islanders for playing a less greasy game tonight than we have seen in the previous games so Jacques didn't put that much effort in stopping him!!!! As far as Jacques goes, he is a rookie, hasn't played that many games and he is going to make mistakes so lay off the kid. How can you compare him to the two others unless they have played in the Q?

Jacques is the worst Mooseheads defenseman of all time. Really?? JF Brault didn't enter into your thoughts ... or perhaps Poirier?? No Pierre-Luc Bacon?? Brault I will always remember as maybe the hardest guy I've seen to knock of his feet, not a pretty skater but so solid.

Yes assuming everything finishes up for the teams in the lead, we get Gatineau. But if Moncton, Victo or Quebec come back, things can change.

Like you said, he was just a big strong 6-7 type defenseman... lacked speed and mobility sure, but that's why he was a 3rd pairing kind of guy. He had some toughness too. My vote, as far as worst defenseman who played a regular shift, also goes to Groleau lol. So many facepalms watching him play.

I don't mean to be a black cloud (no racist, Guru). I hope Jacques develops, he just hasn't impressed me this year. Groleau wasn't THAT bad. Certainly better than Poirier. Admittedly, I don't remember Brault. Must of played when I lived in CB.

Groleau was released part way through the year. Mem Cup year. Mathieu Biron took his spot, and his minutes!
Jamie Bishop gets my vote. As far as guys who played a lot who were bad my top 3 would be Pender, Lomanno and MacAskill.

I certainly didn't have the hockey expertise that an adult would have but my memory deserves a little more credit than that. Case in point: The aforemention Biron never played for the Mooseheads. According to Gordie Sutherland, he was on his way to Halifax from Shawinigan but it never panned out. Mathieu Benoit was another failed trade. Perhaps I was a hockey-savant as a child.

Should be fun to see where PEI goes from here. They have a few very good pieces already, and Moore said 7 picks in the first 2 rounds? Plus, some bodies may be coming back in those Xmas trades.
They certainly have the centerpiece in Sprong to fill in around. Their rebuild and accumulation of assets are certainly somewhat reminiscent of Halifax. Hopefully they draft well, and continue to make some moves to get top 17-18 year olds into the mix this summer. They will be tough next year, but could be great the year after.

]Groleau <<< Jacques. Jacques has been poor all year. He's an adventure every time he's on the ice. Nearly every d-breakdown in this series, certainly Game 1, was a result of him. Seeing as Jacques didn't play in games 2 or 3, it's kinda hard to blame him for any defensive breakdowns in those games.

As far as guys who played a lot who were bad my top 3 would be Pender, Lomanno and MacAskill. Groleau got cut the year after the Memorial Cup year. It was on a road trip, and he pleaded for a second chance. They let him come back for a few more games and then cut him for good. In the Memorial Cup year, after the trading period, the 5-6 dmen were Hugo Lehoux and Joe Groleau. Those two were so weak, that for the Memorial Cup tournament itself, the Mooseheads recalled Jonathan Jolette and played him over those 2, only dressing 5 dmen each game

Yea they're gonna be good, and soon I think. Tough finish to the season, but I bet they learned a lot, and that's huge. Sonier has done a great job so far. Lets hope he keeps it going in the offseason. Great opportunity right now.
