Only problem with this is there's no goalie for next year still, which should be the all-in year. He tried. If he succeeded there's a good chance we would be talking about his he gave up too much to move up one spot. He's a huge upgrade.

PEI was not going to trade with us. For a late 1st or early 2nd I think Islanders would have let him go to eagles which would have been better value since Eric Brassard should be around next year too, I would bet QUEBEC CAN recover what they paid after this run

Worst case scenario, CB forfeits O'Leary's rights and picks #15 overall (if I'm not mistaken) For what it's worth, O'Leary re-tweeted a couple people that acknowledged his selection You're mistaken. For compensation of the 14th pick of round one, you get the 14th pick of round 2 (#33). Halifax as an example got the 15th 2nd round pick (#34) for compensation on Jack Eichel (15th overall). Another thought here, is Halifax drafted Erne knowing he was going to Quebec, and then traded him to Quebec for added value. Could be a similar situation here also.

Twelve months from now CB will be in the exact same position, looking for a goalie.

That was the other interpretation I got from it but wasn't 100% sure. Either way, the compensation pick is worth trying to get a top 5 talent to report (or trading his rights)

Smart asset management, same as Roy last year. That worked out ok. Teams are doing this more and more (Erne, MacKinnon, Roy) and thus far it's paid off every time.

Anyone know if there is any top notch goalies slated for next year's draft? I can only speak for *Nova Scotia*, there's no obvious Evan Fitzpatrick-like talent going into the start of the season. We'll find out this coming season I guess Edit: Donno why I said Fitzpatrick instead of Nova Scotia lol

Anyone know if there is any top notch goalies slated for next year's draft? What's the difference? That player wouldnt be a #1 until 17-18 and best case scenario is watching the 2016 playoff run from the bench. This team is going all in over the next 2 seasons. Luckily there's enough assets that after that we can focus on the next run but today that's an eternity away with how things can change in this league.

Now Dumont needs to look for a d. As he said in the post, the lack of 19s on the roster is an issue.

Yup We need two more 95's (on D would be great) and then a young goalie.
I still wouldn't mind Legare for a 20 year old dman.
