yeah but that goalie is gone next year And that will be a huge issue if not addressed by the start of next year. I did a rough estimate of the games we played and won that I thought we would have lost if we didn't have Auger. Not an exact science I know but to me it seemed very possible that without Auger that instead of having the 45 points we have right now, we'd have 29 points. That would be good for the #16 spot....last team in the playoffs. Granted our team is young and assuming some of those young guys will improve for next year, that would cover some of that point gap and move us up in the standings despite goaltending. However if this year's team keeps rolling along like they are, people are going to have high expectations in SJ for next year...if the goaltending is not addressed for next year I can see it being the "Our Team Our Time" disappointment all over again... which this current Cape Breton team and fans seem to be experiencing something eerily similar right now. A team with high expectations of success failing miserably with a lot of people questioning the coach/GM like we did back then with Jacques Beaulieu. Your front office is aiming to host the Memorial Cup in 2017. I doubt they promote next year a ton, may look to add 2 year players for some of the stockpiled picks...

Your front office is aiming to host the Memorial Cup in 2017. I doubt they promote next year a ton, may look to add 2 year players for some of the stockpiled picks... The front office won't promote it a ton but if Saint John holds on this year and wins the division you can bet at the very least some ads will run asking people to come out and support "last year's Maritime Division champs as they try to defend that crown". Even without promoting it a lot of people know we have a young team that should only get better and is gunning for 2017. They are going to make the assumption that if in 2015 the young team was that good therefore the 2016 team should be even better....which it certainly will not be if they don't get a good goalie to replace Auger from somewhere. Reading the posts on this Cape Breton board regarding this year, and remembering the frustration of the 'Our Team Our Time" year...well let's just say I don't want to relive that in 2016 thanks.

He picked up a few secondary assists, that line was being carried by Dubois and Farrell. Hardly an indicator of anything, he has yet to score on an actual goalie this year, his one goal was an empty net. He was also being incredibly selfish with the puck too the point that is was frustrating to watch. If he was that selfish, why did he have no goals(against a goalie) and 13 assists? It seems like the opposite...he should have shot more and passed less. Because he was playing absolutely awful, idk how else to put it unless you watched him play every night, lol.

His shots per game were on par with last year, as were his assists. He hit the post numerous times and was obviously becoming stressed over this continued goal slump. Combined with the desperation coaching and line juggling, then toss in the young defense and weaker than expected goaltending. Well I'm sure this didn't help with the frustration. Sherbrooke got a deal with a 4th rounder or equivalent. Wait and see what Darcy contributes in the second half.

I should add that people should look at the number of superstar NHL players that have had lengthy scoring droughts and multiple times. Point is, that whatever level your playing this happens but they do break out of it. Again. I'm sure that when Claude Giroux went over 20 games without a goal that the Flyers wouldn't have traded him for a 4th rounder. And I'm not comparing these players, simply circumstances.

The fact that you think it was merely a scoring slump makes me believe you're not fully understanding the situation. Your comparisons simply don't work for anyone who has watched this level of hockey regularly as dominant forwards who play with effort and have Darcy's size and skill should be constant threats. Darcy was getting points on his line mates work as he was simply not willing to be the player he was last season which made him so successful. His lack of goals...0 on actual goaltenders...speak volumes to his unwillingness to get to the dirty areas you need to get into to score goals at a high level of this sport. The NHL is the best of the best. Due to the high level of talent and conditioning the best players can go weeks without scoring yet still show the same compete level. If you think the Darcy who played here this year showed anywhere near the compete level the Darcy of last year showed I believe you are simply incorrect. You don't trade players in slumps. You trade players who are starting to make their teammates worse and are taking hissy fits in front of children after games.

I don't remember Claude Giroux being an overager with the Flyers? I'm not sure how anyone can argue the fact that Darcy was playing awful. 19 games and his only goal was on an empty net? I don't care how many posts he hit, making every excuse possible for the kid isn't going to change how poorly he played. The options were to trade him for something now or get nothing for him in 5 months when his QMJHL career is over. A 4th round pick can go a long way in this league if used properly. It really doesn't matter how well he does in a new city, a change of scenery can effect a player in a positive or negative way. If he breaks out, it doesn't necessarily mean he would have broke out in CB.

The difference in circumstances between Darcy and Giroux is that Darcy can't play anywhere in the league next year. Giroux can play in the NHL next year so you don't just dump him ... and you have to pay him big bucks.

I'm well aware of the different circumstances, my point simply is to state that we must remember that scoring slumps happen to some of the best in the world. I am sure that he felt he needed a change, and I also believe that his value wil l turn out as a bargain for Sherbrooke, as did Lavoie to Rimouski a couple of years ago.

If you were well aware ... you wouldn't have made the comparison.

So Jacob Lagace and Nic Corbeil were just slumping when they played here?

I'm confused by your simple point. You think he should have been traded but you don't think he should have been traded yet because he was simply in a slump like Giroux?

I certainly wouldn't want to confuse you, but to clarify I would want more than a 4th. The only reason their only getting a 4th is because of the circumstances. If this wasn't his last year maybe they wouldn't be trading him. It appears that he wanted a change as this is his final year of junior and I'm sure he wants to break this slump as much as the fans did. I do not agree with some of the negative comments that he wasn't interested, etc. My only point was to remind that scoring slumps happen to much better. I believe you, jamesnorris, were one jumping all over Darcy. Cameron Darcy is certainly not the only one underperforming. I am confident that Darcy will have a strong second half, unfortunately for someone else. I believe firmly that their main problem is not having a couple of core 19 or 20 Dmen, especially when the goaltending hasn't been as expected. Next year we will see the improvement there. You appear also to be a big defender of Dumont. I would assume that in a higher league with more financial resources a change would maybe have been made there.

This is where you confuse me. You say one thing and then immediately contradict it. You say it appears he wanted out but a 4th wasn't worth it and then you go on to say you would have only traded him for a 4th if he was adamant that he wanted out. huh? Of course you want more than a 4th. So would I, so would any other poster, and so would Dumont. That's common sense. It's also obvious that a player playing poorly isn't going to fetch you great value. He got what he's been worth. His attitude, body language, play, and apparently postgame actions have been getting worse lately. The risk of that spreading to the younger guys would far outweigh the return fetched for Darcy to me. Cutting off that dead weight is the biggest asset in the trade. Edit: learn to post properly lol
