I really didn't think Fucale had a great game. The two goals were fairly weak, as was the one that was called back. A Tier 1 goaltender should do better than that.
I'm not a Bent fan, but I thought he played decent tonight when he got a shift. Managed to agitate without taking a dumb penalty.
Ehlers was superb, but he should watch the grandstanding when a penalty call doesn't go his way. If he gets a rep for that fewer calls will go his way.

Agree with you on Bent, forgot to mention him as he impressed me. Ehlers did try and get a call that went against him, as it should have and I think the reffs punished him the rest of the game for it. He will learn. I totally disagree with you about Zach. The first goal was weak but he was guarding against the pass. He stopped a bunch of breakaways and was by far the better of the 2 goalies on the ice tonight. That why we won, which is what the objective is.

I'm not sure what kind of a standard you expect from him if that was your analysis lol. Both goals (even the third that didn't count) were great scoring chances, and he stopped all the other ones including multiple breakaways and big chances. With this team, if he can give us 2 or 3 goals against on 30 shots (many of which are tough - we don't exactly keep the shots from the perimeter), I will take that every night.

Our best effort of the season to date, nice to get a few wins at home get ours a little mini winning streak at home. First, boys really settled down after Brunelle's goal they played well and stuck together;I thought our D is slowly improving Hardie had a good game. Second, Boys just stuck to the game plan and did a great job defending; Ehler's goals was weird because it appeared that CB had tied it but upon review Ehler's goal counted which nullified Cape Breton's tying goal; started getting chippy towards the end of the period. Third, CB tried to come close but Ehler's secured the win with a nice Breakway from the penalty box. Fucale was stellar tonight after giving up the first goal, which he was cheating on a bit but he played really well after that; stopped 4-5 breakways we have to get that number down for Sunday's game. Not going to same much on this but I thought the officiating was really poor tonight, both calls on Ehlers were weak and should have at least been 4 on 4 if not a Halifax powerplay. I hope Talliefer is okay he took a nasty looking high stick and needed to go to the hospital for stitches that's the last thing we need is to lose another D-men. I also really like Nik Gibson did not look out of place at all, I say leave him up with the team for awhile. (pretty impressive, I never get much of this right but I called the win 5-2 Moose and Ehlers with the winner earlier today; had 5-2 In FNP)

Good to see the Mooseheads get the win. Cape Breton has offensive talent, but they need to tighten up defensively, and/or get better goaltending. Not much wonder why their record in 6-7-1.
It's not my intention to denigrate the Mooseheads win tonight; sounds like they played well and are very deserving of their win. Hopefully they build on it.

Mixed up the lines a bit tonight which has been nice to see. Ehlers-Gadoury-Meier has looked good out there. I must say so far Gibson has not looked out of place on the back end. He has played better than Josh Fitzgerald has for us. Wouldn't mind Gibson sticking around for a bit. Gibson turned the puck over leading to Cape Breton's 2nd goal. Other than that, he played ok. Not on Josh Fitzgerald's level though- not sure how you came to the conclusion Gibson was better.

Murphy was awful tonight.
No compete, couldn't make a first pass alll night, and was a turnover machine.

Murphy has to shoulder the load as a #1 now which he's not used to. He will get better.
That said having hindsight available, it was a bad trade. Having Gazolla last year may have pushed Halifax to another championship.
Murphy's cost was just too high, and the trade ONLY works in our favor if he is traded for a good package at Christmas. But I doubt Cam will do that due to lack of experience on dee.

Having Gazolla last year may have pushed Halifax to another championship. Murphy's cost was just too high, and the trade ONLY works in our favor if he is traded for a good package at Christmas. But I doubt Cam will do that due to lack of experience on dee. Using Hindsight, nobody saw Gazolla as getting to be THAT good... in fact, most indicators seemed to show he was wearing down after a strong start that year. And everyone saw a logjam with our 20's coming into last year. Cam was looking to make a move to improve the team for not just 1 year, but multiple years and he did. Keep in mind, I don't think anyone expected to be in a contender situation last year (Ehlers being so good, Drouin returning etc). However, Murphy was playing well by the playoffs at 17, and was one of our steadiest, best overall defensemen last year. I haven't watched him closely enough this year to see any major problems as I have only noticed the good things he is bringing (smart plays, mobility, rushing the puck) compared to the rest of the crew. He still has all season left, and another one in this league. That why he was expensive - he was a top 5 pick who was 17 and has been a very good defenseman for us. We could have him back as a 20, or sell him for assets at Xmas. It's only due to Gazolla being SO good last year that it wasn't a great trade for Halifax, but it was still a good trade IMO given all the circumstances. Would I have swapped Murphy for Gazolla last year, 1 for 1? Of course. But the trade and the cost can't be judged until Murphy is out of the league because he will still be giving value for another 1.75 seasons.

I agree, and if Cam does the smart thing and trades Murphy for huge return, Halifax wins the trade.

I agree, and if Cam does the smart thing and trades Murphy for huge return, Halifax wins the trade. I was against that trade at the time(cost and downgrade for age gain) but was ok with the potential they had of recouping the assets later. That not only requires the trade of him at Xmas(who knows) it also requires him to settle down and not over think what he is doing. Seems he can rush the puck but then becomes a deer in headlights at the end. It would help of course if others got open for more options. The return could be large with a lack of 19yr old D on market and playing on a better team most likely sees better results. As far as need they can always get cheap filler but I would not worry based on the numbers. They have played 10 different D because of injury and they seem to be getting better with all the ice time. Falling in the standings is a bonus as long as they keep improving. High picks with trade return is the quick way to rebuild.
