Halifax really wanted 2016 1st because that is the Joseph Veleno/Jared McIsaac draft, assuming neither gets special status for 2015.
From Willy to and from a tweeter: Crosby didn't even get special status ... Don't think the Q has ever given special status." >> Exactly. But Veleno is asking.

Does not matter what Halfax gets for players this year. Its more about getting the best value for the future and perhaps dropping in the standings.

I know Quebec doesn't have much as far as hockey assets to build a competitive club for next year, but they do have a ton of cash, and will be moving into a brand new NHL-calibre building. I appreciate that pick will likely be a high one, but I'm not near convinced it's going to be top two.

As long as Ehlers and Meier and Danny Moynihan stay this team hard pressed to drop lower than 11th... Just too good still. It hard to lose Bathurst style with Dom as the coach.

Those teams think a rebuilding year equals the 9th or 10th playoff spot. They will bring guys in.

I can't see the Remparts really bottoming out, especially with the cash and new arena they have/will have in the near future. Quebec City is the biggest market in the QMJHL, and it's not that hard to attract players to go there. If the Mooseheads have the top pick in the 2016 draft, it'll likely be their own.

Possible but Sags, Gat will pass maybe a couple more with key trades, CB, CHA. A couple may drop below as well. Drum, Vic, maybe BC if they follow through on the rumor mill.

Regardless where the pick is in that round there may come an opprtunity to swap it later. Say that Quebec is middle pack and another team wants something you have but they may hold a pick a little lower (perhaps they are holding pick of a worse team) and you just swap them and the difference is player off your roster that they want. The Moose do not have much on the roster though unless Cavan Fitzgerald becomes "that stud" to make the flip.

I don't know ... with Patrick Roy gone there isn't nearly as much of a draw to play in Quebec for the US players. The biggest issue for many players out of the US is going to a French market. The real advantage that the big markets have is they have larger scouting staffs and a broader network of hockey people to draw on to find players. Quebec hasn't really been doing much with US born players lately ... just Erne and they had to trade to get him. ... 4 yrs ago. They also aren't a team you think of when you talk about a FA draw. They will always have good hockey people around the team ... and they will always have good Euros ... thats what money can buy. But the rules surrounding Euros, and new rules surrounding payments to Euros and Americans sort of evens the playing field a little and will make it more difficult for anybody trying to rebuild quickly after selling the farm for a run.

Truthfully, I think Halifax's own pick in 2015 might be better than Quebec's in 2016.

Looks like the Remparts have scheduled a press conference for about an hour from now:

With Fucale maybe his hands were tied and he only had 2 offers that could have been pulled off the table at any point should they focus elsewhere, and Cam not only wanted to gain an asset or two but also give Fucale a chance to end out his career on a successful run (and maybe wins record). With Murphy you would think he would hold out until later. It will be interesting to hear from Cam as to why they did the deals so early.

Booth was part of the deal but wouldn't waive his NTC to come to Halifax. I wonder when this was found out?
