I don't even know what that means...... He isn't signed now.. he's playing professionally... if they have interest in him why would they really want him to come back down a level? Bottom line they will sign him if they want... and if not someone else eventually will He isn't coming back You're slowly getting further and further away from the original point of Montreal not be able to dictate his plans. I for one agree he won't come back so no need to repeat that again. Like most players , I'm sure he still has dreams of playing in the NHL. Montreal is his ticket so obviously they have some influence on his decisions. Period.

This is the Moncton board... not the Montreal board.. the original point was speculating whether the Cats could pick up Reway... not whether Montreal could/would dictate where he plays
He has a contract at home that dictates where he plays......
that is my point... coming back to junior hockey doesn't get him closer to his dream of playing for Montreal (if that even is his dream)... and it doesn't benefit the Habs either......

Why did Reway not come back to Gatineau this year...got tired of Groulx's act? His decision ... he felt he'd be better served playing pro against stronger competition ... and AHL was not an option. He wanted to play pro in order to support his family.

Theoretically how much would Golovkovs from Drummondville cost? If the Cats are looking to add a Euro for just this season and someone who could play on the top two lines, he seems to be the most obvious candidate.
I know adding a Euro who would be back next season is most ideal, but there really isn't any options that I think would be available.

No reason to think he is a Euro who couldn't play as a 20 in the Q..

I think we'll see more Euros used as 20 YOs in the future ... but in our case right now ... we have Sweeney, G Johnston, S Johnson penciled in ... with Zilbert and Beaton on the outside looking in. I don't see Golovkovs bumping those three if they are all available. Plus ... we'll draft 2 new Euros if we have Golovkovs on our special list as a 20. Is the weakest guy plus say Johnston worse than going with Golovkovs as a 20 ? I think in our situation it would have to be a very high end Euro to justify keeping him as a 20. In another year it might be more logical.

I guess I assumed Sweeney was being shopped or likely to turn pro I don't see any way Beaton or Zilbert play as 20's...... and I'm not convinced G. Johnston is a 20 for you either... but like I said you guys would know your team better than I

Johnston is a 20 for you either... but like I said you guys would know your team better than I Well as of right now ... before the trade window closes ... Sweeney is here ... he is undrafted ... and has no contract yet. But I agree he could easily turn pro and be gone next year. Right now those are our 3 20s nezt year. By the end of tomorrow that could change. Garrett Johnston should have one of the 20 YO spots unless he is traded ... ahead of Zilbert and Beaton anyway. But your scenario might be more workable with a guy like Weiser from Sherbrooke but I doubt they would deal him. I just don't think Golovkovs brings enough impact to keep him ahead of our 20 YO options plus a new Euro we could get at the next draft. But then ... would a Euro come back as a 20 for $150 a week ... when he can probably play pro in Europe for better money ? Or does he get 20 YO money plus Euro money.

However, that could certainly change depending on a number of variables. This is all assuming that the Cats are even interested in him of course.

I'm sure part of the reason they acquired Karabacek was so that they wouldn't have to draft two new Euro's this summer. Cats can't offer anything to help them there.

They can make reccomendations, but it's not like Reway is some borderline 6th rounder. If Montreal doesn't scoop him up, somebody else will and he would re-enter the draft this summer. So where's the insentive for Reway to listen to their reccomendation. Plus the guy signed a 2 year deal, and he might not be able to get out of it even if he wanted to return.

To clarify things; according to Reway, he has had a discussion with the Habs before deciding to go to Europe, and the Habs were OK with that decision. Because Reway decided to go back to Europe from North America, Montreal will hold his exclusive NHL rights until 2017, so the Habs can afford to be patient with him and see what he does for the next two years in Europe before offering him a contract, if they want to.
