Some good news this morning in the paper, for those scared the Klimas might get demoted to the "3rd line", Shannon reiterated this morning that they will be the "2nd line".
Must really make Johnson and Smith all warm and fuzzy after both had strong years last year, to get dropped to the 3rd line before the puck even drops on the season behind two guys that managed one whole point in 33 combined OHL games.

So right now the roster at 26 looks like this:
Garland(19)-Askew(18)-MacEwen(19) Klima(18)-Klima(18)-Leger(18) Smith(19)-Johnson(20)-Tibbo(19) Cormier(18)-Bower(18)-Weirderer(19)
Murphy(17)-Corson(17)-Crossman(16)
Sweeney/Johnston(20)-Maltesta(19) Glassl(18)-Klebanksyj(19) Holwell(18)-Guay(19) tesink(17)
Fortin(20) Dupre(18)
Has anybody heard if they are keeping 22, 23 or 24 players? Johnston/Sweeney is one obvious cut to get to 25. Don't see the point of keeping 3 16/17 year olds up front in the press box and also one on defense. Ideally Guay(19) and Tibbo(19) are let go so younger players can play. At this point the whole regular lineup will be 3 20's and 17 18/19 year olds. The Guay over Bornstein move still baffles me...

I'm hoping that by keeping Guay they plan to play Tesink the majority of games and have Guay in the press box. I still don't see the upside of keeping him over Bornstein at all, he likely won't be playing anything above the third pairing. They need to make room for some of those younger forwards too, they shouldn't be sitting those guys. It's an old team but I don't see them finishing any higher than mid pack this year and I'm hopeful they will actually play/develop Murphy, Corson and Crossman this year and if not it would have been better to send them somewhere where they would have actually played.

Not sure how long you've been a fan of the Wildcats, but have you not realized they do the complete opposite of what the fans want?

Looking at this roster...
If a LOT of things go right this team could potentially challenge the top three in the division.
If a few things go wrong this team could easily be in last place.
Overall I HATE the lack of youth on the team. Going into last year I thought it was a nice mix of youth and veterans that could be exciting and they were. Cats finished the season with seven 16/17 year olds on the roster. Perfect. This year looks like a thoroughly mediocre team in a strong division with four 16/17 year olds. Unless they're a surprise contender I really hope they see the light and sell big at mid-season.

I get the feeling that Shannon is getting heat from the owner to ice a winner, which explains a lot of 18 and 19 year olds in the bottom half of the roster. It also doesn't help that some of the most talented guys from the last 2 drafts...Krys Mcinnis Petruzzelli Waite O'Leary etc are no shows.

Unload the majority of them in deals for picks, then bring in the young guys (Cyr, Lavoie, etc) for the second half.

I have said for a few years, this team needs a rebuild year and to stockpile some picks and blue chip talent(non NCAA) instead of usually being without a 1st and chasing free agents to fill holes.

They have two firsts this year and if they trade Sweeney may be able to grab another. But I think they are missing rounds 2-4 or something like that. The major concern is that they trade both of those picks away to try and contend this year, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the strategy they take at Christmas

The last few years they have had no first but had most of the 2nd-6ths, this year they have 2 1sts which is great but no 2nd to 5th. Ideally you add 3-4 top 5 picks by moving 19 and 20 year olds this year...3-4 of Johnston Sweeney Maltesta Garland Smith etc

I heard this summer from a not so reliable source that Irving thinks this is the year. I laughed it off at the time. Now after seeing the make-up of this team I'm starting to worry a bit. We won't really know for sure until after the Xmas trade period though.

He was selected as a 19 YO to maximize (in theory) the Euro slot for one season. If he doesn't adapt well to the Q then yes ... toss him in there. I see Tibbo being released after Garland and Askew return. Not sure of what they plan for Guay ... but if he sits out at all then he is a wasted player card. Sent from my SM-G925W8 using proboards
