BLB would be pretty close to emptying the cupboards.. 2 firsts+teasdale for Dubois. 2 more 1sts for Meloche+Trennin.. Thats alot to pay for 3 guys who may not be back next year

Around 2000, teams would add 4-5 big names at midseason and then have a 3-4 year rebuild.

I don't think many teams are willing (financially) to completely empty the cupboards and deal with 2-3 years of an unwatchable product. It's harder and harder to get people out of their houses to watch losing teams. The rebuild cycle in junior hockey still exists but I think as time progresses, all teams are more concerned with icing a competitive product year after year. Not many fanbases can sustain 2-3 years of losing with such competition for entertainment dollars in todays society.

I'll say "be so aggressive" rather than saying "emptying the cupboards". Normally these trades happen in January.

BLB is rumoured to trade 4 first picks for Dubois, Meloche and Trenin but they don't have their 2018 pick. So 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021 ?!

so it seems like there won't be any more trades announced tonight, not as much trades done today as I expected, more to come probably early tomorrow hopefully some more big ones.

I doubt there will be anything spectacular now until January. They tend to announce trades on the first day, and then quit for the holidays.

Last year, there were 8 trades announced on opening day (December 19th), 4 on the 20th, 6 on the 21st, and 3 on the 23rd. The year before, there were 2 announced on opening day, 11 the next day (including the Fucale\Murphy deal), and 2 on the 23rd.

I do my research most of the time before I spit out posts like that. I didn't realize there we so many trades recently right before Christmas.

While I am sure many of them are place holders for other assets the league really needs to protect teams from themselves with this stuff. No GM trying to win in 2017 should be able to trade picks from 2021 to do so. You're giving up what should be a star 19yr old in 2025 (!) to try and win in 2017. That's not very fair to the fans of that team or to the inevitable next GM. A 3 year window to move picks and a 1-2 year window to move 1st rounders seems normal to me. A bad GM can cripple a team for a decade if a proper replacement is not brought in soon enough.

WE don't talk about the Quebec teams that much here.... the Remparts a little bit I suppose
but one trade that stands out to me as just plain weird on day one
Baie Comeau trades their 2018 first round pick to Sherbrooke for Justin Blanchette...16 year old rookie goalie who was drafted 28th overall this past year and has 5.52 GAA and .834 save percentage thus far
how in the world can anyone think he has raised his value from late second rounder to a first based on that?
