It's crazy considering he seems like a pretty complete player and puts up good numbers.
I really thought St. Louis would do better adding he and Bozak down the middle with the wingers and young players they have but I guess not.

Bad timing , maybe?
St. Louis is in arguably the toughest division in the NHL, two teams at their window in Winnipeg and Nashville, Minnesota is tough, Colorado is approaching their window and has arguably the best line in the NHL now, Dallas is better than the Blues on paper.

St.Louis had the team to go far but they never addressed goaltending and Allen has peaked at NHL average starter on a good day.

Just shows how quick we are to label people as individual losers in a team sport.
Could have been eliminated in round 2 and still be a loser. But won game 7 and kept going and now Cup champs and the story is completely different.

But won game 7 and kept going and now Cup champs and the story is completely different. People tend to attach team stuff to individuals, often guys that never win play on crappy teams. There are exceptions, star players that can't produce at key times, but on poor teams, those guys get all the attention quite often, and nobody is there to take advantage.

It's a real fine line. I think only people in that room really can appreciate what O'Reilly has done even when the team was down.
When it mattered he produced and was a concern for the opponent. But if Binnington had not stole the show for a period in game 7 nobody would be lauding O'Reilly because we are very superficial as the hockey fan masses.
