Becoming exhausting to follow all the covid related stuff at this point.
Marlins have an outbreak yet they play on the road and the only thing done is the other team recommended their players wear masks. Which would only really help if the Marlins were wearing them as well. They plan on flying home today and there's no such thing as a 14 day quarantine for crossing a state line down there.
You'd think multiple positive tests within 1 team would be a huge red flag and reason enough to quarantine that team for a few days but they're treating it like the flu.

The players also seem to have stopped giving a shit about any protocols. Lots of spitting, close high five celebrations etc. Mask wearing is hit or miss. How do you continue a season when one of your teams can't even field half their team ?
The reality is despite so many confident posts about "im sure the players will be taking so many precautions to make sure they can play" is that when you have a large group of people inevitably theres going to be a percentage of them that don't give a shit, or think the virus is a hoax, or only care about themselves and all the precautions in the world just go out the window.
The NFL better be taking lots of notes here. They have teams that as of today are making plans to have 10,000 fans in the stadiums come the fall (atlanta)

i have watched a few innings so far ...... i too am noticing mostly no shits given in terms of protocols aside from managers .... players have masks but are wearing them as neck scarves in most cases..... hugs and fist bumps and high fives galore
the argument between the umpire and the manager where both stopped to put on masks first was kinda funny tho

Not sure why the Marlins and TB insisted on playing in Florida. Not to get political, but the idiot Desantis is the guy who wouldn't close beached and oked reopening the Disney resorts 6 weeks ago. Instead of taking precautions they want shortcuts for their precious economy and they end up paying a much bigger price.

But the Jays managers and coaches had them off and on all weekend. Many times the cameras showed Dante Bichette with no mask on. And I noticed Montoyo put it on while the camera was on him twice which may have been coincidence but it still a bad look. But this is the country who would tell you they shut down and just couldn't contain the virus while they never had any quarantine period for crossing state lines. Because they want us to believe that's impossible to expect. 100 more sleeps until we find out if they're really all this fucking dumb down there.

Eight more players and two coaches with the Miami Marlins have tested positive for COVID-19 No idea why they didn't go with hub cities like every other league that's starting back up. I'll give it a few days, but I fully expect the season to just be cancelled. (Which thank God if it is, looks like it would've been a painful year to be a Sox fan)

Why wouldn't they play in Florida if everyone but the Jays are at their own stadiums? Arizona, NY, and California all have a lot of cases and sports are happening there. It's impossible to discuss covid and not get political. But the Americans all need to be painted with the same brush because the lack of federal leadership has allowed out of control state leadership to reign with stupidity. Desantis' rant from post-Memorial Day history will go down in history as one of the dumbest moments in American political history. He basically tempted fate by bragging about how he had no cases. Now he easily looks like the most inept leader in a country led by an inept leader.

I hope the NFL with their 300+lb lineman who plan on living home and traveling city to city sees how the non-bubble is playing out. I hope the season is cancelled just to deliver another death blow to people like Trump and Desantis.

Imagine the uproar if the Marlins were stuck in Canada right now vs in a hotel in Philly. The same state that told the Jays they were not welcome in Pittsburgh, though. Do none of them see how little sense any of this makes? The health of each region is jeopardized every time an MLB plane lands at this point. Because we even let the infected teams decide whether to play or not according to the Marlins who decided to play yesterday.

Yankees/Phillies game has been cancelled as well. That's the smart thing to do. They are testing Phillie players today and disinfecting the stadium.

I think the only way hub cities model would work for a regular season is 1) shorten your season eg 75 games; 2) pick 4-6 regional hubs; 3) split season into 3 parts where players play 25 games in bubble then go home to families for a break then return for 25 more games and so on. Since baseball can play 25 games in 3 1/2 weeks it's the only league that could do it. Game start times would be all over the place but whatever. Football cant do it. 5-6 day recovery period between games. Rosters of 50 players. However football could play a short season. 7 or 8 games. Go in bubble for 30 days and play 4 games. Break out then come back for 3 or 4. If football would use just their divisions they could do it. Only 7 games (2 vs everyone + 1 bonus) a pretty succinct season could easily manage TV 2 games per bubble per Sunday. Players would possible sign off on going in a bubble for a month if they got byes out of bubble to see families. But the seasons need to be shorter. And more condensed.
