Outgoing AHL President mentioned a few things in this article. 1) possibility they won't have 31 teams in 2020-21 if crowds not allowed back everywhere 2) shared affiliations to support NHL contract minor leaguers making sure every franchise has a place for their players. A big repercussion if AHL and ECHL do this is there will not be enough pro spots for players. This will in turn keep some 20 year old age talented players in CHL a little longer. Ones who may have moved on to AHL. Trickle down effect. Could a case be made that CHL teams allow 4 overages for a season? www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/29171397/ahl-president-some-teams-not-play-fans?platform=amp&__twitter_impression=true

Also if the NHL were ever going to raise its draft age to 19 I think no better time than 2021 - maybe the lack of scouting opportunity will put the idea out there.

They can hope. It depends on the 31 cities really. But it's a plan not set in stone. Subject to change.
