"Unfortunately on a few occasions we have seen organised looters and a few hoodlums looting to try and take away from the message."
----
In the late 70s I remember a blackout in NYC. I was just a kid but on TV that's all you saw. Burning fires, reports of looters breaking into all the stores, and curfews because there was just an element that uses that as an excuse to grab and run with colour TVs, watches and designer clothes.
45 years later - I know some have ramped up the organized part (coming with pallets of bricks and uhauls) but there will always be opportunists. They use the crowds as a way to take advantage. Those elements are there everyday waiting for an excuse to loot property. Those individuals dont give a crap about about George Floyd.
So I wish people would keep perspective. Take a step back from saying these people are showing their frustration in different ways and looting and fires are their way. People who say that legitimize the looters as if they are victims. They arent. George Floyd is a victim. And there is a list of victims. But the looters are not victims. They are opportunists.
Agree, the problem is, some focus on the looters because they can't or won't support change that will prevent most of these incidents.
It can't be THAT hard to filter your police candidates for ones that are not racist and are not out for blood. The whole point of the police is to keep the peace, not "kick ass". Pretty easy to see that some wear the uniform for the wrong reasons.
