I heard today that Dale Hawerchuk lost his battle with cancer. May he rest in peace.
Dale was a great hockey player and sort of got lost in Winnipeg and didn't really get the notoriety that he deserved. He was one of the very best of his time. Way back then we didn't have quite as much hockey on TV as we do now, and we usually had a Toronto game on Saturday night, or Montreal out here on the east coast. You might get a Winnipeg game once in awhile but it was always the late game and so you didn't get to see Hawerchuk do his thing. I think he was vastly under-appreciated for the skills he brought to the game. He had his shot on a few Canada Cup teams. Landed in Buffalo and Philadelphia but I don't think he was ever on a really strong team ... maybe I am not remembering that correctly. He was a classy guy ... one of those guys you always wished was on your team.
Anyways ... sad to hear of his passing at the young age of 57. I will miss him.

Way too Young .....Found it interesting that he was the MVP of the Championship Series in the 87 Canada Cup ....remember Mario and Gretzky played on that Team along with about 20 other Hall Of Fame Players .

Gretzky is another reason that Hawerchuk didn't really get the recognition he should have ... he was over-shadowed by Gretzky.

Yeah, he didn't have the supporting cast on Winnipeg that Gretzky and those Calgary teams had. His talent and overall game really showed up in those Canada Cups.

Arguably the most under the radar superstar the NHL ever saw, R.I.P.
