Do you really believe that Ray wouldn't come back to Toronto ? I can't believe 5 Million Dollars was the Sticky Point . Given this CBA Deadline , I say he dropped his asking price and Seattle was in the right place at the right time . Either that or Toronto felt he would not keep pitching at the same level as 2021...it just looks really strange on the surface. Seattle has a bright future, but Toronto has a much better chance to win now. He is from Tennessee so it's not like he is going close to home...

As a Cy Young winner, it's hard to not have Ray re-sign..but aren't the stats between the two pitchers similar?
Would Ray be able to repeat his performance from last season?
I would prefer Ray, as he's already familiar with Walker.....but Gausman is no slouch.

According to Steve Phillips, Ray "over played his hand".
He apparently told the Jays he had an offer for more money on the table....which wasn't true.......so then the Jays signed Gausman........and then Ray signed with Seattle.
Via Steve Phillips.

I saw the same interview ... from the Jays perspective, Gausman is a similar pitcher at a similar price point ... even if they slightly preferred Ray, negotiations with both reached a point where Gausman was ready to accept their offer, and Ray was not - so rather than waiting and possibly losing out on both, they pulled the trigger to lock up Gausman. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush ...

Either or both those guys could slide back to career averages, lots of variables.

That what I’m talking about though. Marquez is the trade I’m talking about. I don’t like the idea of Story personally. He’s a good player but for me if they were going to trade for a SS I was Lindor or stay with Bo guy. I don’t know what others think here to but I just don’t get the love for Bauer. The money that’s being reported that he’s asking is to much for him IMO. He had one great year. One again IMO he’s not an ace but a number 2 maybe but definitely a number 3 guy. If it’s come across as bashing him I’m not I just don’t have him as high as others. I need to add IMO Walker and him side by side stats there isn’t more ch of a gap. Especially if you take away last year stays. So if you look at it that way why isn’t there a huge out cry to get Walker back. I don’t know this for sure but from what I’ve read I think you could get Walker for 4yrs and a third of what they gave Springer. a number 3 guy? there aren't 3 guys in the entire league that are better than him.

Kind of odd timing to dig up a January 2021 post and praise Trevor Bauer - very good pitcher, but good chance he never pitches again ...

I hate when people side track threads but I’m about to do it. What is going on here? That was a post about last years off season. It was 11 months ago. Why are you bringing it up now? How about standing up for the guy who was basically kicked out of the league for the stuff he did of the field. That alone by the way proves how wrong you are by saying he one of the 3 best pictures in the league. The answer to you question is every picture in the league is better than him, for the simple reason they can all step on the field. Now I didn’t know any of the stuff he’s being accused of when I posted that but man it backs me up even further. For the record my own opinion I think he’s fully guilty and in the wrong but I’m not going to say what he allegedly did because of board rules. This is why I’m using words like “accused” and “Allegedly”. So dont come at me for protecting him, it’s cover my own ass here.

I honestly didn't realize that was from a year ago. early morning i guess.. I wouldn't have commented had i known so I apologize for that pal. I don't know enough to comment on what he's guilty of or not guilty of off the field. I thought it was silly to say he was a number 2-3 pitcher when i read it. Still do. but will move on as to not side track the convo.

I remember early in Gausman's career, he had some games that he looked outstanding against the Jays. I figured he would be elite, but then he got pummelled for a while and I always wondered how he could go so bad. Hopefully he figured it out, and I have confidence in Walker to make sure he keeps up the success. Boston's Houck gave me the same impression in terms of a guy who looks, at least early on, to have great potential. When he gets knocked around, I am always surprised because when I see him he's almost unhittable. Houck usually gets in trouble when he gets away from being aggressive. Yes when I saw him against the Jays, he was coming right at them. Hitters were on the defensive and forced to go up hacking right away. Like Robbie Ray, sometimes you need to keep doing that because it works, even if it means you give up some long balls now and then. He won the Cy Young despite giving up the 3rd most homeruns in the majors.
