I'm watching the Boston Caps game. What the hell is a half wall? Those American broadcasters are pathetic. They said one shot left a dent in the end board???

Another question. Will the NHL players ever get fed up with those plastic toy sticks?

Another question. Will the NHL players ever get fed up with those plastic toy sticks? Not as long as they can whip shots 10 MPH faster than regular sticks and they don't pay for them.

If I want to watch a game involving Boston if I can I will get the other team's feed off the Center Ice package just so I don't have to listen to Edwards.

I don't know, all I do know is that the last time I had the misfortune to listen to Edwards was the Boston-Washington game where Wilson ended up getting a major for doing Wilson things and Edwards was going off on Wilson for most of the game and I was wishing that Edwards would just say it to Wilson's face just so that would be the end of Edwards.

Tom has better things to do.

But does that make up for all the missed shots when they break on a simple pass or shot? I'm assuming this is meant as a response to shot velocity, not Jack Edwards. The answer is it it worth all the broken sticks on slapshots or passes is - absolutely, 100%. This is the NHL, it's the highest level of play in the entire world. This is a league where the San Jose Sharks re-designed their jersey because the extra striping made it slightly heavier (seriously, that happened.) Players and teams are looking for every single little advantage they can get, everything that is done in the NHL is done because it's META (most effective tactics available) If wooden sticks were better, don't you think somebody would have brought some to practice and tried them? Of course they've been tried and of course they're terrible compared to the composite sticks. This is a situation where 10mph makes a world of difference (and I think 10mph is probably underselling it.) This is why a 90 mph slapshot is not really considered very hard but if you go over 100 it's terrifying. tl;dr - if wooden sticks were better, every team would be using them. The other thing is - broken sticks really don't happen that often. They usually happen at key times, so they're going to stick out in your mind more because of how the biases built into the human brain work, but, no, it's really not that big a deal when compared to the whip you get from composite sticks.

I wonder if teams have ever done a study on the impact of these sticks being so fragile.

I wonder if teams have ever done a study on the impact of these sticks being so fragile. That's a really good question. My kneejerk response is "somebody has to have done it" But, at the same time, studies can cost money, and there's a lot of "old school" thinkers in this game who don't really respect that kind of thing.

If you search on Youtube you can find an application that can be put on sticks to make them unbreakable but, that in itself, is the crux of the problem. Who is going to create an unbreakable stick. It's like creating a solution that can melt through any material but they couldn't find a container to put it in.
