Like a lot of other people (mostly fans from opposing teams) I hated this guy when he played in the Q and it hasn't gotten much better in the NHL. BUT I must give credit where credit is due. He is having one hell of a career - way better than what I thought he would have in the big leagues. Currently 7th in NHL total points (2 pts behind Marner for 3rd), 3rd in goals scored (2 behind McDavid for 2nd) and tied for 1st in short handed goals with 4. With last night 31st SHG of his career - he now hold the Bruins franchise record in that category. In case your wondering the NHL record is held by Wayne Gretzky with 73. Marchand leads all active players and sits in 20th overall (3 more SHG's would move him up to a tie for 10th). Not bad at all for a 3rd round pick - 71st overall. It's sort of funny & sad to go back and look who your team picked before Marchand was... www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2006e.html

I said a year or so ago ... Marchand is building a late career case to get into the Hall of Fame ... I don't think he is there yet, but when I said it, I felt he needed another 3-4 years of production at his current level, plus maybe another Cup or individual award of some sort to strengthen his case ... one season down with no drop-off ... 2-3 more like this one, and I think he is very much in the conversation.

Back in Midget, I believe he was the line mate of Q first overall pick, James Sheppard (sp ?) ... selected by CB in 2004. Moncton took Marchand early in the 2nd rd as I recall. Where is Sheppard now ? Putting up uninspiring numbers in Europe. That was an era where big guys had more value than smaller guys.
Moncton also drafted Wesley Welcher 14th overall before they took Marchand at 24th.

Marchand has also completely changed his on ice game.... very rarely now does he do the stupid antics he was most famous/infamous for when he was trying to establish himself as an NHL regular.
To me he's a top 5 winger in the game
